FC Emmen was promoted to the Eredivisie for the first time in the club's history on Sunday after a 1-3 victory in an away game against Sparta Rotterdam in the final of the playoffs. "We knew we could achieve this but that we actually made it happen, is wonderful", Youri Loen said to NU.nl.

Underage teenagers can order beer from most sports clubs in the Netherlands without any problems. The vast majority of sports club canteens do not check IDs before serving alcohol to young people, according to a study commissioned by the government, NOS reports.

Over 82 percent of football clubs sell alcohol to underage teenagers. Less than 19 percent of hockey clubs check IDs. Tennis clubs and sports halls did not perform much better, with 24 and 25 percent respectively checking IDs.

A remarkable selection training is happening in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam on Monday. The Dutch walking-football team is looking for retired internationals, age 65 or older, to join their team for the walking football World Cup, RTL Nieuws reports.

The team now consists of former internationals 79-year-old Sjaak Swart, 65-year-old Dick Schoenaker, 65-year-old Kees Kist, and 66-year-old Wim Rijsbergen. They are looking for five more players to complete their team.

A player for football club Dwingeloo's second team went into cardiac arrest during a match on Sunday morning. The 27-year-old man was resuscitated by teammates. He was rushed to hospital and his condition was stable on Sunday afternoon, the secretary of the football club said, according to the Telegraaf.

The Dwingeloo 2 player collapsed during the match against Oldeholtpade. "His teammates first thought he had an epileptic fit, but he later lost consciousness", secretary Albert Nijstad said, according to the newspaper.

System problems caused frustration during registration for the Nijmegen Vierdaagse - an annual four days long hiking event - on Monday morning, De Gelderlander reports.

The Vierdaagse started at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. At the same time, potential participants received a message that they can re-register for the event on a first come, first serve basis. Many people tried to register online for one of the 1,744 spots still available in the event, but to no avail. The online registration module wasn't working, and hopeful participants could not pay their entry fee.

At least 37 people were arrested around the KNVB cup final between Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar in Rotterdam's De Kuip stadium on Sunday. Feyenoord won the match 3-0. Football supporters damaged multiple trains heading towards Rotterdam, ProRail reports.

After a good breakfast, King Willem-Alexander kicked off the King's Games with 500 children at Brede School De Fliert in Twello on Friday. This is the sixth edition of the King's Games - a sports day focused on getting kids in the Netherlands enthusiastic about playing sports and staying active.

This year's theme is "Inside Out". It's focused on stimulating kids to play outside more. Over 1.2 million children from over 6 thousand primary schools in the Netherlands, the Caribbean and Dutch schools abroad are participating this year.

Angry Ajax supporters stopped the players bus at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday evening, after the football team returned from a humiliating loss against PSV in Eindhoven. PSV won the match 3-0, thereby securing the league title for the 24th time in the Eindhoven team's history, NOS reports.

The bus carrying the Amsterdam footballers arrived at the Johan Cruijff Arena around 8:30 p.m., where angry fans had been waiting for some time. Witnesses described the atmosphere as threatening and police officers were on site, according to NOS.

The Amsterdam Arena will officially be renamed the Johan Cruijff Arena from the next football season, was announced on Thursday after long negotiations between stadium management, the Amsterdam municipality and Ajax. The Dutch football legend's family is pleased that a decision has finally been made, though it could have happened faster, Carole Thate, who acts as spokesperson for the family, said to NU.nl.

Amsterdam police chief Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg is annoyed at a number of supermarkets in the Red Light District, that bought extra beer and liquor to sell to English football supporters who came to the Dutch capital to watch the Netherlands vs England practice match. These supermarkets did not take their responsibility to prevent drunken football hooligans rampaging through the city, according to him, Het Parool reports.

British football association FA released a statement condemning English football fans' behavior in Amsterdam around a friendly match between the Dutch and English teams on Friday. Around 100 British football fans were arrested in the Dutch capital on Thursday and Friday, mostly for disrupting public order, according to RTL Nieuws.

Most of the arrested supporters have since been fined and sent home, according to the broadcaster.

A Dutch football player is suspected of involvement in five armed robberies in the area around Turnhout in Belgium - robberies on a casino, a gas station, a supermarket and two gambling offices,RTL Nieuws reports.

Ismail H., 22, had a contract with AS Roma and played for Westerlo on a rental basis. He was fired in January, according to the broadcaster.

Bibian Mentel won the Netherlands first gold medal at the Paralympic Winter Games in Peyonchang on Monday. She took gold in the snowboard cross. Silver also went to the Netherlands with Lisa Bunschoten coming in second place. Chris Vos also won silver in the men's snowboard cross, NU.nl reports.

Wesley Sneijder is saying goodbye to international football, he announced on Sunday. The decision was made in consultation with new coach Ronald Koeman.  He hopes to play one last match for the Dutch national team. "It is my wish - and that is known by the KNVB - to say goodbye to my fellow internationals and the Oranje fans in a beautiful way", Sneijder said to the Telegraaf on Monday.

A Dutch skier was killed in an accident on the slopes of a ski resort in Sölden, Austria on Sunday. The 50-year-old man collided with a wooden marker during a descent and flew 15 meters through the air before landing on the ground, RTL Nieuws reports.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but could not land due to thick fog. Other skiers and emergency services tried to resuscitate the Dutch man, but he died at the scene.

The victim was on holiday with five family members. Where in the Netherlands he was from, has not yet been revealed.

The Dutch athletes that participated in the Winter Olympics in Pyeonchang are returning to the Netherlands on Monday, bringing 20 medals with them. They will be welcomed back and honored at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam on Monday evening, RTL Nieuws reports.

Kjeld Nuis has conquered his second gold medal of the Winter Games on the 1000 meters, the eighth Dutch gold at this year's Olympics. With a time of 1 minute and 7.95 seconds, the Dutchman was just fast enough to best Norwegian Havard Lorentzen who took silver.

The time difference between first and second place was a shocking 4 hundredths of a second. The South Korean Tae-Yun Kim took the bronze.

Short tracker Suzanne Schulting won the Olympic title in the 1,000 meters - the first Dutch short track skater to win gold at the Olympic Games. Silver went to Canadian Kim Boutin, and bronze went to Italian skater Arianna Fontana, NOS reports.

Schulting had an amazing finale. She started in second position, but quickly took the lead by overtaking Boutin. After that she did not suffer from the pushing and pulling behind her, and stayed in first place until the end.

"I just started skating and stayed on one. I really still can't believe it", an overjoyed Schultin told NOS.

The medal celebration for the Dutch men's skating pursuit team went wrong in the Holland Heineken House (HHH) on Thursday night. Sven Kramer, Jan Blokhuijsen, Patrick Roest and Koen Verweij threw a large plate holding their bronze medal into the crowd, injuring two women, RTL Nieuws reports.

TeamNL added two more medals to its collection at the Winter Olympics in South Korea on Wednesday, both in the team pursuit. The women's team won silver, and the men won bronze, NOS reports.

Ireen Wust, Marrit Leenstra and Antoinette de Jong broke a Dutch record in the race ending with a time of 2:55:48, but still had to settle for Silver. The Japanese skaters won gold with an Olympic record time of 2:53:89 - only 1:58 ahead of the Dutch. Bronze went to the United States.

The Netherlands' women short track skating team won bronze in the relay at the Winter Olympics in South Korea on Tuesday. The Dutch team won the B-final, but still managed to snatch bronze in the A-final due to Canada and China being disqualified, NOS reports.

The team consisted of Jorien ter Mors, Yara van Kerkhof, Suzanne Shculting and Lara van Ruijven. They broke a world record in the B-final wit a time of 4:03:471, according to the broadcaster.

With a sensational race, skater Esmee Visser won gold in the 5 kilometers at her first ever Olympic Games on Thursday. She is also only the second Dutch woman to win the longest distance, after Yvonne van Gennip, NOS reports.

"Really great, I have no words for it", Visser said in a first reaction to her Olympic title.
