A 26-year-old football player for SC Helmondia collapsed on the field during a match against SPV in Vlierden on Sunday. The young man died in hospital on Sunday night, a board member of SC Helmondia confirmed to Omroep Brabant on Monday. 

A few minutes after half time, the footballer went to sit down because he did not feel well. He collapsed a short time later. He went into cardiac arrest. Teammates and a player for SPV resuscitated him on the field and he was rushed to the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven. He was kept in a medically induced coma until he passed away.

Stefano van Delden, manager of Jong Ajax player Mees de Wit, was attacked after a football match in Helmond on Friday night. "It was clearly about my skin color", he said, according to RTL Nieuws. He pressed charges of public violence and vandalism with the police. Football director of Helmond Sport, Marcel van den Bunder, condemned the violence on Monday. He called it "unacceptable" and "unworthy of Helmond Sport" in a response to Omroep Brabant.

A 7-year-old boy died in hospital on Thursday evening after he collapsed on the field of football club AZSV's school in Aalten earlier that afternoon. Exactly what happened to the boy is still unclear, the Gelderlander reports.

Young Thijn was immediately helped by experts who happened to be on the sidelines of the field. An ambulance picked him up soon after his collapse and rushed him to hospital, where he passed away later in the evening.

Hang glider Arne Tanzer made a "perfect" jump from De Johanna student apartment building on Bisschopssteeg in Utrecht at 7:00 a.m. on Monday morning. "It was fantastic, I reached higher than I expected. I even made two turns. Eventually I was in the air for more than 40 seconds", Tanzer said to NOS Radio 1 Journaal after his jump.

Dutch marathon swimmer Maarten van der Weijden managed to swim across the Channel between England and France twice in succession on Sunday. He arrived on the English coast in Dover late last night, after leaving from that same coast during the early hours of Sunday morning, RTL Nieuws reports.

The Dutch national women's football team was celebrated and honored for their European Championship victory in Utrecht on Monday evening. Some 12 thousand fans cheered the Oranje Lionesses as they sailed over the Stadsbuitengracht and then took the stage in Lepelunburg Park for the official ceremony, NU.nl reports.

The Oranje Lionesses beat Denmark 4-2 in the finals of the European Championship in Enschede on Sunday, thereby winning the European Cup for the first time ever. The Dutch women's football team was ecstatic by the win.

"This is truly unbelievable", an emotional Vivianne Miedema said to NOS in the Grolsch Veste after the match. "The realization still has to set in, but this is really great."

The Netherlands national women's football team beat England 3-0 on Thursday night and thereby progressed to the European Women's Championship finals for the first time ever, according to ANP. The Oranje women will be facing off against Denmark in Enschede on Sunday. Should they win the cup, the Dutch team will be honored in a celebration ceremony in Utrecht on Monday evening.

Goose bumps and tears filled the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam on Tuesday night as tribute was paid to Ajax footballer Abdelhak Nouri during the Championship League match between Ajax and Nice. Nouri sustained serious and permanent brain damage after he collapsed during a practice match a few weeks ago.

The Dutch national women's football team won the last group match against Belgium 2-1 on Monday. The Oranje women is thereby the group winner and progressing to the European Championships quarterfinals, NU.nl reports. 

Sherida Spitse scored the first goal for the Netherlands halfway through the first half in the Koning Willem II stadium in Tilburg. An hour into the match Belgium came back with a goal by Tessa Wullaert. In the 75th minute Lieke Martens scored, brining the Netherlands to 2-1 and to victory.

Rain gear was the order of the day for the first group of hikers kicking off the third day of the Nijmegen Vierdaagse. On Thursday the hikers were greeted by heavy rainfall and thunder when they started their hike on the Wedren in Nijmegen at 4:00 a.m., according to the Gelderlander.

Nijmegen's annual four day hiking event, the Vierdaagse, kicked off on Tuesday morning. The first hikers started their journey at 4:00 a.m. and by 6:30 a.m. over half of the 42,036 participants were on the way, the Volkskrant reports.

This is the 101st edition of the Nijmegen Vierdaagse, which ends in the Nijmegen city center on Friday. Hikers from no less than 67 countries are participating this year. The youngest participant is 11-year-old Maud Molemans from Nijmegen, the oldest is 94-year-old Herman Dubie from Amsterdam. This is the Amsterdam man's 20th Vierdaagse.

A 27-year-old volleyball coach from Berlicum was taken back into custody on he suspicion that he secretly filmed young players while they were nude, AD reports.

The coach was arrested late in May, and released from custody two weeks later. The Public Prosecutor filed an appeal against the release, and the court in Den Bosch ruled on Friday that the man must be taken back into custody.

People participating in the Nijmegen Vierdaagse hike next week, will have to take high temperatures into account, according to Weeronline. From Sunday, temperatures will rise to tropical highs of above 30 degrees on Wednesday, according to the weather service.

The Nijmegen Vierdaagse is happening between Tuesday and Friday next week. Some of the accompanying parties already start on Saturday.

Abdelhak Nouri sustained severe and lasting brain damage when he suffered from heart arrhythmias during an Ajax practice match against Werder Bremem on Saturday, the Amsterdam team revealed in a statement on Thursday.

"In the intensive care unit of the hospital in Innsbruck, Nouri's brain functions were further tested over the past few days", Ajax reports. "The diagnosis that was made is that a large part of his brain no longer functions and that the chance of recovery of these crucial brain functions is nil."

Information about sexual abuse is often left untouched at clubs, federations and the person of trust point of the NOC*NSF, which means that perpetrators walk free for longer than necessary. The sports world also rarely call in the police, according to the report, the Volkskrant reports.

A woman was severely injured while taking part in the VenloStormt obstacle course on Saturday. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where she died of her injuries a short time later, a spokesperson for the event organizers said to NU.nl. 

The woman got hurt after sliding from a meters-high slide into the water of the harbor. Once in the water, she collided with another participant and disappeared under water, according to the newspaper. It took several minutes for divers to pull her out and start resuscitation, 1Limburg reports.

British racer Davey Lambert was killed in a crash on Tuesday. And hours after the Dutch racer's fatal accident, Irishman Alan Bonner was killed in a crash, BBC reports.

Football club PSV in Eindhoven is calling on all professional clubs in the Netherlands to open their own helpline where players and former players can report sexual abuse. Clubs need to do more to help the victims, PSV director Toon Gerbrands said to the Volkskrant.
