Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frans Timmermans, was on Wednesday in the House to answer questions about the status of the relationship with Russia.

Many worried MPs wanted to know from the minister how the discussions, cooperation and negotiations go about the various issues. The minister answered that all communications are happening in a relaxed way during which both parties show respect for each other. Timmermans added, “I am happy that no new incidents have happened.”

Bontes told the Volkskrant that he has not been voted out of the PVV group in the house anonymously. One of the PVV MPs abstained from voting. 

Geert Wilders told the press on Tuesday morning, right after the voting, that the decision was an anonymous decision. Bontes describes the situation: “After Wilders had spoken, all MPs were given some time to speak. Then the voting took place, although one of the MPs asked for a written voting. That person abstained from the oral voting. However, the 13 voters against me were for me enough proof that I was no longer welcome.”

Minister of Internal Affairs, Ronald Plasterk, says that the NSA has admitted to intercept millions of calls in Europe. This has been written in a letter which the NSA sent to several allies, like the Netherlands. 

Plasterk who was a guest in Nieuwsuur on Wednesday, said that the calls were checked on meta data. These are things like who calls who? The number of 1.8 million of intercepted calls in the Netherlands is not just a story.

Geert Wilders announced Tuesday morning that Louis Bontes has been kicked out of the group of PVV in the House. Earlier on Tuesday told the press that he hoped that he could stay as a member of the PVV group.

The PVV leader said that he thinks that the decision to kick Bontes out of the PVV group is a ‘sad moment’. “It is OK to criticize and people within PVV can do that every day. Using the press to blow things up and do some back stabbing, we can’t appreciate.”

Minister Lilianne Ploumen of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, will visit Kenya this week. The trade mission to Kenya is seen as a good example how development aid can be changed by trade.

The focus of this weeks trade mission which will last from Monday till Thursday, will be on infrastructure and agriculture. Together with the minister 25 Dutch companies will join the trip. They will visit, among other things, the harbor in Mombasa, where a new container terminal will be built, and a flower growing project.

The people in Noord Brabant are worried about flights with nuclear weapons to and from the air base in Volkel. The Provincial Environment Committee (POC) shares the worries of the citizens and is not sure if the province government has a full view on all the possible risks.

It is unofficially known, by word of former Prime Ministers Lubbers and van Agt, that the air base in Volkel stores nuclear weapons. At the Brabant air base there are probably 10 to 20 nuclear bombs. They are scheduled for modernization in 2017.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte has no clues if he has been monitored by the NSA. He announced that on Thursday in Brussels where he is attending the Euro Top. 

On Thursday the news came out that Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany has been monitored by the NSA. She was very angry about this.

Rutte says that if this is true, it is a very serious matter. We will have to investigate this thoroughly and take steps according to the outcome. Especially among allies it is important to find out what exactly happened.

Henk Westbroek is not going to be the new mayor of Utrecht. This was told to him by the municipal office of Utrecht on Wednesday. The reason for their decision is that Westbroek does not have enough management experience.

The Algemeen Dagblad (AD) in cooperation with the Utrechts Nieuwsblad did a poll about who is the most favorite for the job. In the beginning of October, the singer and presenter, was the most favorite among the readers of the AD. He received 28% of the readers’ votes.
