The United States urged the Russian authorities to thoroughly investigate the recent attack on the Netherlands diplomat in Moscow.
Russia does not yet consider the incident with the diplomat Dmitry Borodin in The Hague as resolved, reports the news agency Interfax.

Minister Frans Timmermans of Foreign Affairs has made an apology of the Dutch government to Russia for the arrest of Russian diplomat Dmitri Borodin. Borodin says that he is satisfied with the apology.
Borodin told the press that the Netherlands did, by making excuses, the right thing. “This was a violation of the Treaty of Vienna, so the Netherlands did the right thing with respect to international relationships.” He added, “I hope that the Dutch press will stop with disgracing my family.”

Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem of Finance has canceled his trip to the annual meeting of the IMF in Washington. Dijsselbloem was supposed to attend the meeting on Thursday and Friday but canceled the trip because of the negotiations with the opposition about the Dutch National Budget.
Dijsselbloem says that he has responsibilities to the international institution, but as of this moment he wants to solve the internal Dutch problems because that is now more important to him.

State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Agriculture will visit Russia on Wednesday and Thursday. She hopes that she can end the boycott of Dutch potatoes.
The visit was already planned for some time. Although the relation of the Netherlands and Russia is under stress at this moment, the State Secretary thinks that it is important that the talks about agriculture will continue. Dijksma will not touch the issues which give at this moment rise to the stressed relationship of the two countries.
