Ten residents of the Kruidenbuurt in Heerenveen need to be examined by a pulmonologist, to determine whether their health issues are caused by polyurethane foam. That is the advise of the Frisian GGD after investigation. The GGD can not exclude that the complaints are the result of pur insulation in their homes.At the request of the housing association WoonFriesland, the GGD started the research this Summer in the Kruidenbuurt. 47 residents of 29 homes suspect their deteriorating health is the result of a large-scale program of housing insulation.

The number of visits to the outpatient department of hospitals has for the first time fell in years. Since 2008 the number of outpatient visits increased year on year, but fell in 2012 by 1.4 percent.

The number of admissions decreased as well as the length of hospital stay. The number of outpatient care for the length of a day increased in 2012 by 2.2 percent compared to the previous year. This is evident from the industry report published Tuesday by the Dutch Association of Hospitals (NVZ).

The number of new reports of measles is halved the last week compared to the previous week. Last week there were 64 new cases. The week before, that number was still 127. These figures were published on Thursday by the RIVM.

Since May the Netherlands has seen a growing number of measles patients. In total, since May 1226 people were infected with the disease, mostly children between 4 and 12 years.

There will be no measures against new blood thinners that may cause gastrointestinal bleeding. This was answered by  Minister Edith Schippers of Health on Wednesday to the  House, to written questions from the SP.

In June, a study of the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam showed that the risk of bleeding with the new anticoagulants is 45 percent higher than with the current standard treatment. Blood thinners make sure that the blood remains thin enough and no blood clots will occur.
