Every year the Dutch police pay over 10 million euros to traumatized cops, NRC reports based on figures requested from the police. Since 2014, officers who suffered a trauma during the course of their duties can claim compensation from a national reporting point.
The height of the compensation depends on the degree of the trauma and how long it left the affected police officer unable to work. Over the past three and a half years, the police paid more than 39 million euros on this compensation, according to the newspaper.

The Public Prosecutor consider three Dutch persons suspects in the fipronil contamination scandal that resulted in millions of eggs being recalled from supermarkets. The suspects are two managers of pest control company ChickFriend and Nick H., whose company is suspected of delivering fipronil to the Barneveld company, NOS reports.
The Dutch and Belgian authorities are raiding several addresses in both countries on Thursday as part of the investigation into fipronil contamination at numerous poultry farms and their eggs. The mental healthcare sector in the Netherlands is struggling to find enough qualified staff, according to an annual survey of the sector by Intrakoop and accountant Verstegen. The total number of vacancies in the sector grew by a massive 28.5 percent last year to 5,151, newspaper AD reports.
Almost a thousand of the vacancies were difficult to fill, according to the report. The total 186 mental healthcare organizations in the Netherlands are good for around 64 thousand full-time jobs, the researchers estimate.
Dutch food and consumer product safety authority NVWA denies that it first learned that eggs were maybe contaminated by toxic fipronil in November last year. The authority did receive a report about fipronil in that month, but that report only stated that it had been used to clean stables - there was no reason to believe that it could end up in eggs and pose a potential health risk, inspector general Rob van Lint said on Wednesday, RTL Nieuws reports.

The Red Cross in the Netherlands will soon be using virtual reality films in their first aid courses. The aid organization thinks that this will help students better envision an emergency situation so that they can learn how to deal with it, NU.nl reports.
The virtual reality films will first be used during an attempt to break the world record for the largest first aid course on Dam square in Amsterdam on September 9th. The current record stands at 1,795 participants. The Red Cross hopes to get up to 2,500 people.
Dutch swimming union KNZB is calling for obligatory swimming lessons for asylum seekers, following the drowning of a 16-year-old Syrian boy in a swimming pool in Venlo on Monday. The union doesn't necessarily want every asylum seekers to get a swimming diploma, but "every child must get compulsory experience with water and swimming", Alice Schols of the KNZB said to RTL Nieuws.

Special gluten-free products are not always a healthier alternative to regular products, consumers association Consumentenbond reports. A study done by the association revealed that gluten-free products often contain more fat, sugar and/or salt and less fiber than similar products with gluten, ANP reports.

German supermarket chain Aldi is removing all eggs from the shelves across the country because of fipronil found in eggs from some Dutch poultry farms, the supermarket chain announced on Friday. According to Aldi, this is a "precautionary measure", ANP reports.
Health insurance will be more expensive in the Netherlands next year due to an unexpected setback, Chris Oomen, CEO of insurer DSW, said to Radio 1 Journaal on Friday morning. Due to a deficit of 400 million euros, premiums will increase by an average of 30 euros per year, ANP reports.
"Income from the health insurance fund fell out lower in 2016. That resulted in a deficit of 400 million euros", Oomen said. "This will have to be compensated for in the premiums. Because our reserves are decreasing because of this and therefore we can not keep our premiums low."
