Drones will be used to transport medicine from the Dutch mainland to the Wadden island of Schiermonnikoog in a new experiment by UMCG Ambulance Care and ANWB Medical Air Assistance, NU.nl reports.

The test involves three drones making a total of 30 flights from an unspecified location in Friesland to the helicopter port on the island. The municipality of Schiermonnikoog agreed to the test, under the condition that this will only involve medical flights. The island wants to deter commercial flights, because they disturb the peace.

An Amsterdam VU medical center experiment with a simple injection that contains a substance that resembles the DNA of bacteria, had positive results in preventing skin cancer from spreading, AD reports.

This first experiment involved 52 skin cancer patients, who visited the doctor due to a suspicious skin mark over 10 years ago. All of them were diagnosed with a melanoma in an early stage.

From this week the Dutch Ministry of Public Health is distributing iodine tablets in provinces located near nuclear plants. The pills are intended to protect against a certain type of radiation should there be a nuclear disaster. According to the Ministry, around 3 million people in large parts of the regions of Oost-Nederland, Noord-Nederland, Noord-Brabant, Zuid-Holland, Zeeland and Limburg will receive a packet of pills in the mail by the end of next week, the Volkskrant reports.

The Public Prosecutor demanded 6 years in prison against Ron O. from Tilburg in court on Monday. The 47-year-old man is accused of raping 11 women and sexually assaulting a 12th, ANP reports.

O. performed physical examinations, including internal vaginal and anal examinations, on his victims. They thought that he was qualified to do so, and only afterwards discovered that he was not really a doctor.

Health insurer DSW is lowering its premiums and mandatory own-risk deductibles for next year, in a move that went against the expectation of politicians and the insurer itself.

In 2018 the DSW premium for a basic health insurance package will be 1,290 euros per year, or 107,50 euros per month, NU.nl reports. That is six euros less annually. Mandatory own-risk deductibles will decrease from 385 euros to 375 euros.
