Dutch FilmWorks is launching an experiment in which they will send people caught downloading torrents a 'fine' of 150 euros, per download. The Dutch film distributor is starting with people who illegally downloaded new film The Hitman's Bodyguard, the company announced on Thursday, NU.nl reports.

The Kerst Event Zwolle - the biggest living nativity scene in the Netherlands - does not allow Muslims to play a part in their nativity scene. Around 5.6 million people in the Netherlands steam videos on Netflix for an average of 84 minutes per day, according to a study by Multiscope among 6,700 respondents aged 18 and older. That amounts to around 8.3 million hours of Netflix video watching per day, Bright reports.

Netflix owns about a third of the video-on-demand viewing time in the Netherlands. YouTube is the second largest video-on-demand service in the country with 18 percent of the viewing time, followed by NPO Start with 9 percent and Ziggo GO with 9 percent.

The Netherland's word of the year is 'appongeluk' - a traffic accident in which at least one of the involved parties were busy on their smartphones, . Nearly 70 thousand votes were cast for the word of the year. Appongeluk won with 20 percent of the votes.

NPO 3FM's Serious Request 2017 kicks off in Apeldoorn on Monday night. DJ's Angelique Houtveen, Domien Verschuuren and Sander Hoogendoorn are set to arrive in the Gelderland city by train at 3:00 p.m., and at 8:00 p.m. Frans Timmermans, vice president of the European Commission, will  lock them into the Glass House. This year 3FM's annual fund raiser is raising money to help the Red Cross reunite families torn apart by disasters or conflicts, according to the Serious Request website.

Dutch intelligence and security agency AIVD posted its annual brain-buster puzzle online. Puzzle lovers, and anyone else who is bored over the holidays, have until 11:59 p.m. on January 15th to solve the puzzle and submit their answers. This year's puzzle consists of 15 pages with 42 exercises, which participants can solve independently of each other.

Last week a swarm of  300 luminescent drones flew over the sea and a beach in Miami. Studio Drift, an artist duo from Amsterdam, presented their flying artwork Franchise Freedom on the Art Basel in Miami Beach, Het Parool reports.

Through their art Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, together Studio Drift, investigate the relationship between nature and technology. They started working on this project 10 years ago, studying the regular flight patterns of starlings and translated them into a software developed especially for drones.

Netherlands film distributor Dutch FilmWorks was granted permission this week to collect the IP addresses and handle the personal data of internet users suspected of downloading movies and series from torrent websites. The authority over personal data, DPA, said Dutch FilmWorks took adequate measures to handle and protect the data it receives.

An appeal can still be filed against the decision, the DPA stated. Appeals against the decision may be filed in court up to January 17.

Amsterdam missed out on the chance to host the opening match of the UEFA Euro 2020, but the Dutch capital will play host to several Group C and Round of 16 matches during the European football championship. Bucharest, Romania was also named host of Group C matches, and it will also serve as a quarter-final location.

Rome's OIympic Stadium was selected by the European football federation as the site for the opening match. The Italian stadium is also a quarter-final site. The semi-finals and final of UEFA Euro 2020 will be held at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Everyone celebrating Pakjesavond in the Netherlands this evening, can look forward to not doing so in the rain, according to Weeronline. This evening is expected to be cloudy, but dry with mild temperatures ranging between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius. 

The Netherlands celebrates Pakjesavond on the evening of December 5th. Tonight many Dutch children will excitedly listen for a knock at the door, or a thump in the attic, and run to find that Sinterklaas left a sack full of gifts for them.

Dutch broadcaster Radio 538, DJ Frank Dane and his colleagues are facing criticism over a "prank" they pulled on 20-year-old singer Maan de Steenwinkel over two weeks ago. The DJs sent a streaker - a naked man - to startle De Steenwinkel while she was performing on the radio station. The young woman was so shocked that she burst into tears, ANP reports.

Pearl Jam will give two performances in the Netherlands next year. The band will be playing in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on June 12th, before being a headline act at Pinkpop on June 15th, NU.nl reports.

The two Netherlands shows are the kickoff shows for Pearl Jam's European summer tour. The band will perform 14 times in Europe, ending in Lisbon on July 14th.

Tickets for the Ziggo Dome will be available through Ticketmaster from Friday, December 8th. Ticket sales for Pinkpop start on February 14th.

On Friday NPO Radio 2 DJs Gerard Ekdom, Paul Rabbering and Frank van 't Hof officially kicked off the Top 2000 voting week with the residents of Beilen in Drenthe. From today until December 8th, people in the Netherlands can vote for what they think are the 2,000 best songs, NU.nl reports.

The Top 2000 bus will tour through the Netherlands over the coming week, helping people to vote along the way. Ekdom and Wouter van der Goes will also make programs from the bus.

The stories of founding chefs and restaurateurs plays a prominent role in the book, as do the neighborhoods that play host to some of these gems.

Netflix is launching its first Dutch-language series in 2019. The series is called Undercover and will be a Belgian-Dutch co-production starring Anna Drijver and Frank Lammers in the lead roles. Elise Schaap, Tom Waes, Raymond Thiry, Tim Haars and Huub Smit are also cast in the ten part series, RTL Nieuws reports.

Sinterklaas paraded through the Amsterdam neighborhood of Osdorp on Saturday on the back of a camel, instead of a horse, with a drum band playing Arabic music and a barrel organ, Het Parool reports.

The neighborhood parade caused some political backlash - from PVV leader Geert Wilders who called it "sick" on Twitter, and animal party PvdD worried about the welfare of the camel - but according to organizer, 15-year-old Salim, he simply wanted to make it a fun parade for his neighbors to enjoy.

A total of 78 municipalities in the Netherlands are implementing firework-free zones over New Year's this year, AD reports based on a survey of 300 municipalities. These zones are areas within municipalities in which no fireworks may be lit. They're usually located around hospitals, animal shelters or childcare facilities.

There are only three new names on the list of municipalities implementing firework-free zones this year - Ede, Terneuzen and Weesp. The other 75 municipalities also implemented firework-free zones last year.
