Music and entertainment festivals across the country received thousands of visitors, organizers say, with free festival Parkpop in Den Haag leading the pack after drawing in over 190,000 visitors. The organizers believe that the festival was a big success, even thought the festival program was adjusted so visitors could enjoy the football match between The Netherlands and Mexico, where The Netherlands advanced to the quarter finals after winning by a score of 2-1.

Dutch female comedian Adèle Bloemendaal suffered an intense stroke, and had to be taken into hospital where she has now come out of her coma, De Telegraaf reports. The 81-year old is currently working on rehabilitation, but doctors are hesitant to say if she will ever speak again.

For the first time in 34 years, the Parkpop organization has decided to temporarily put the festival on hold during the Word Cup game between The Netherlands and Mexico this Sunday. The organizers of the free music festival located at the Zuiderpark in Den Haag, first announced that the festival will carry on as planned but to prevent visitors from leaving just before the game they have decided to show the match on big screens beginning with the 6 p.m. kickoff.

Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan has announced that restaurants, bars, and cafes will be allowed to stay open for an hour later than usual to show Dutch matches in the knockout stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They will also be permitted to put up additional TVs and big screens for the tournament. Cafés with a licensed terrace or patio may place TVs outside, but outside beer taps are still not permitted, according to Dutch newspaper het Parool.
