The Amsterdam Concert Hall (Concertgebouw) celebrated the 75th anniversary of the American jazz label Blue Note on Thursday. The Concert Hall Jazz Orchestra gave a concert, and there were performances from American bebop tenor saxophone legend Benny Golson, and singer José James.

Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan has announced that restaurants, bars, and cafes will be allowed to stay open for an hour later than usual to show Dutch matches in the knockout stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They will also be permitted to put up additional TVs and big screens for the tournament. Cafés with a licensed terrace or patio may place TVs outside, but outside beer taps are still not permitted, according to Dutch newspaper het Parool.

What was supposed to be a relaxed gig for Amsterdam pop/rock band Tease and Denial, quickly went all out last Saturday with band members and patrons alike agreeing that it was like “one great trip to heaven and hell and back!” Lead singer Mariska almost literally exploded. “Our climax doesn’t come easy,” grinned Mariska (Lie A Ling), who started the band together with her guitarist hubby Ivan.
