Nearly 5.5 million people tuned in to watch the Oranje Lionesses play against the United States in the FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday afternoon. This is a new record for the Oranje women, after the semi-final against Sweden attracted just over 5 million viewers, NOS reports.

Amsterdam will not host the Eurovision Song Competition. The Ziggo Dome, the intended location, is not available when the Song Competition is set to be held. " This in connection with bookings and reservations that on closer inspection can not be rebooked", Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema wrote in a letter.

The city tried to find another location, but it was to no avail. The RAI and Johan Cruijff Arena are also unavailable. And AFAS Live is too small.

Excitement is in the air as the Dutch women’s football team gear up to face Sweden in the 2019 FIFA World Cup semi-finals match on Wednesday.

This is the first ever semi-final spot for Oranje Leeuwinnen and their second appearance in the 28-year history of the World Cup – their first being in 2015. To secure the coveted spot, Oranje dominated Italy in last Saturday’s match, emerging with a 2-0 win after only scoring in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Andre Rieu came to the rescue of a Haarlem brass band for people with mental disabilities. The band lost all their instruments in a theft this week. The world-famous Dutch violinist decided step in and replace all the stolen instruments, RTL Nieuws reports.

The brass band kept their instruments in a trailer. When they arrived at the trailer on Thursday morning, they found that someone had broken in and stolen all their instruments. Together the instruments were valued at around 20 thousand euros.

"Is the woman who gave me a lift to my hotel in 1992 maybe here tonight?" Vedder asked during the first, sold out, show of his solo European tour in Afas Live Amsterdam on Sunday, AD reports.

A young man from Belgium won big during his first ever visit to a casino. The young man, who asked to remain anonymous, won the Mega Millions Jackpot at the Holland Casino in Breda on Friday night. He walked away with 1,381,724.60 euros, BN De Stem reports.

"This shows how you can strike lucky even on a first visit", the casino manager said to the newspaper. "While enjoying a glass of champagne, the guest received a check of almost 1.4 million euros tax-free."

New rules around public broadcasting in the Netherlands means that the broadcasters will no longer be distributed before 8 p.m. The websites of the broadcasters will also go completely ad-free when the rules take effect, according to NOS.

The new strategy will be put forward by Arie Slob, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education and Media. His letter to the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, was not yet released on Wednesday afternoon.

A number of international news outlets reported the death of Dutch teen author Noa Pothoven as "legal euthanasia", though this apparently was not the case. The teenager died in a hospital bed in the living room of her parental home in Arnhem on Sunday, according to newspaper AD. In a final Instagram post the day before her death, she reported that she had stopped eating or drinking some days ago.

She slipped into a coma and passed away. "After years of fighting it is over", she wrote on the social media platform. "After many conversations and assessments it was decided that I will be released because my suffering is unbearable. It's over. I've not been really living for so long, I survive, and not even really that. I breath but no longer live."

The new Netflix program “Historical Roasts” has riled up some people in the Netherlands, for its episode featuring a satirical banquet of Anne Frank. The 15-year-old Holocaust victim was portrayed by comedian Rachel Feinstein in the episode, where Frank was made fun of, and also mocked the others on stage at the end of the show.

“Us Jews always get through the pain with laughter. If we don’t laugh, we cry,” said host Jeffrey Ross. “So with that in mind, please enjoy the Roast of Anne Frank, and the end of my career,” he said in the show’s introduction.

Sinterklaas will make his national arrival to the Netherlands in Apeldoorn this year, NTR and Apeldoorn mayor Petra van Wingerden-Boers announced on Friday.

The national arrival will happen on Saturday, November 16th. ​Sinterklaasjournaal, the kids' show that follows Sinterklaas' travels to the Netherlands, will start on Monday, November 11th.

Duncan Laurence landed at Schiphol Airport at around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, after winning the coveted Eurovision Song Contest title for the Netherlands for the first time in 44 years with his song Arcade. He was greeted by red, white and blue balloons at the sliding doors and a crowd of screaming fans waving Dutch flags, wearing orange shirts, and red-white-blue floral wreaths and hats.

Last week Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said that she will consider holding a celebration on the Museumplein should Ajax win the Champions League. But the people who live around the square are against such a party. "Unfortunately, at this time the Museumplein can no longer handle this party", residents' association Vereniging Buurtbelang Museumplein said in a letter to the mayor, Het Parool reports.

The letter is signed by six board members of the association. Exactly how many residents the association represents, is not clear.
