Last week a swarm of 300 luminescent drones flew over the sea and a beach in Miami. Studio Drift, an artist duo from Amsterdam, presented their flying artwork Franchise Freedom on the Art Basel in Miami Beach, Het Parool reports.
Through their art Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, together Studio Drift, investigate the relationship between nature and technology. They started working on this project 10 years ago, studying the regular flight patterns of starlings and translated them into a software developed especially for drones.
Netherlands film distributor Dutch FilmWorks was granted permission this week to collect the IP addresses and handle the personal data of internet users suspected of downloading movies and series from torrent websites. The authority over personal data, DPA, said Dutch FilmWorks took adequate measures to handle and protect the data it receives.
An appeal can still be filed against the decision, the DPA stated. Appeals against the decision may be filed in court up to January 17.

Dutch broadcaster Radio 538, DJ Frank Dane and his colleagues are facing criticism over a "prank" they pulled on 20-year-old singer Maan de Steenwinkel over two weeks ago. The DJs sent a streaker - a naked man - to startle De Steenwinkel while she was performing on the radio station. The young woman was so shocked that she burst into tears, ANP reports.
Pearl Jam will give two performances in the Netherlands next year. The band will be playing in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on June 12th, before being a headline act at Pinkpop on June 15th, NU.nl reports.

Netflix is launching its first Dutch-language series in 2019. The series is called Undercover and will be a Belgian-Dutch co-production starring Anna Drijver and Frank Lammers in the lead roles. Sinterklaas paraded through the Amsterdam neighborhood of Osdorp on Saturday on the back of a camel, instead of a horse, with a drum band playing Arabic music and a barrel organ, Het Parool reports.
The neighborhood parade caused some political backlash - from PVV leader Geert Wilders who called it "sick" on Twitter, and animal party PvdD worried about the welfare of the camel - but according to organizer, 15-year-old Salim, he simply wanted to make it a fun parade for his neighbors to enjoy.
A total of 78 municipalities in the Netherlands are implementing firework-free zones over New Year's this year, AD reports based on a survey of 300 municipalities. These zones are areas within municipalities in which no fireworks may be lit. They're usually located around hospitals, animal shelters or childcare facilities.
There are only three new names on the list of municipalities implementing firework-free zones this year - Ede, Terneuzen and Weesp. The other 75 municipalities also implemented firework-free zones last year.

Dokkum is getting ready for Sinterklaas' national arrival on Saturday, including putting up decorations and preparing for an anti-Zwarte Piet protest. The municipality of Dongeradeel, which includes Dokkum, gave Kick Out Zwarte Piet permission to protest, but is still working out the exact conditions and arrangements, a spokesperson said to Het Parool.

Guns N' Roses will return to the Netherlands for an encore performance on their Not In This Lifetime tour. The concert tour was extended into next summer, when it will conclude in Gothenburg, Sweden after two years of performances.
