Amsterdam is set to assess the state of tolerance towards minority groups in Amsterdam following a spate of allegedly homophobic threats and violence in the city, Mayor Femke Halsema said on Thursday.

"There is a street culture in Amsterdam that is intolerant and intimidating for many minority groups. We need to initiate conversations so that the standard is clear: in Amsterdam you are accepted and you belong. People must be able to be individuals here," said Halsema, speaking at a debate with the city council on the matter.

Five trucks went up in flames on Fokko Kortlanglaan in Ermelo during the early hours of Thursday morning. The trucks were parked behind duck slaughterhouse Tomassen Duck-To. Director Gertjan Tomassen blames the arson on animal activists, Omroep Gelderland reports. 

Tomassen said that he saw the animal activists start the fire with jerry cans on surveillance camera footage. He also said that a petrol bomb was placed in the factory, but that it did not go off, according to the broadcaster.

The number of people found trying to illegally cross from the Netherlands to the United Kingdom at Dutch ports decreased significantly in the first quarter of this year, according to figures released by the Koninklijke Marechaussee. In the first quarter, Marechaussee officers found 130 stowaways, compared to 240 in the same period last year.

A suspect in a "serious incident" was shot by police Wednesday afternoon and later died, officials said. Little information was released about what unfolded, with police only saying that it was a "chaotic situation," according to a local broadcaster.

A trauma team was dispatched by ambulance to the Beresteinseweg in Hilversum just before 5 p.m., with police confirming the shooting shortly after. Police announced that the man died around 7:30 p.m. According to De Gooi en Eemlander, the suspect died at the scene.

Gökmen T., who has been detained for life for his carrying out of the attack last March, was found guilty of raping a woman in her home in July 2017.

The court in The Hague sentenced three men from Mexico to six years in prison for involvement in the production of crystal meth. The men were caught in the act of producing meth in a warehouse in in Wateringen on February 26 last year. 

The suspects came to the Netherlands from Mexico. They were transported to the warehouse every day in February 2019 to produce the highly addictive drug, according to the court.

Two people were injured in a shooting on Retersbekerweg in Klimmen, Limburg on Tuesday evening. Three people were arrested, including the two who were injured, the police said in a statement. One person was still at large, police added.

The shooting happened at around 7:00 p.m. The police are investigating exactly what happened that led to the dispute. "A fight between two families was probably the reason for the incident," the police said.

The total number of fraud reports increased from around 6,500 per month between December and February to 15 thousand in April. The largest part of that increase was WhatsApp fraud, NOS reports.

The police found a "nearly complete" crystal meth laboratory in a truck pulled over on the A12 highway near Arnhem on Monday, along with a quantity of meth, chemicals, and drug waste. "The lab was already in production, but was apparently being moved," the police said. The truck driver, a 40-year-old man from Beuningen, was arrested.

A search of a home in Amsterdam Oost led to the discovery of 2.4 million euros in cash. The Zeeburgereiland home was raided last week as part of a money laundering investigation, police said.

It started on Friday evening when police officers stopped a car on IJburglaan and detained a suspect in their case. The 29-year-old Amsterdam man was taken into custody.

Officers then were given permission by the prosecutor’s office later that night to search the home on Eef Kamerbeekstraat. The connection between the suspect and the home was not revealed to the public.

Police were looking for witnesses on Tuesday who may have seen those responsible for setting a transmission mast on fire in Roosendaal. Firefighters were sent to the Hollewegje in the Noord-Brabant town for the suspected arson at about 1:07 a.m.

The damage was still being assessed Tuesday morning. It was at least the 29th time that a telecommunications mast was set alight since April.

They feel that recent incidents show why enforcement officers need to be armed with 'defensive equipment' like batons and pepper spray. A Rotterdam police officer was remanded into custody on Monday, accused of drug possession, breaching official confidentiality laws, on-duty corruption, and money laundering.The 30-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday.

The investigation into the officer began after police received a tip, "which led to a suspicion that information was being leaked by a police officer," the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said. The 30-year-old was working as a hoofdagent, a supervisory police officer that leads team strategy.

One person who was harming himself was shot at by police in Halsteren on Saturday morning. The man later died of his injuries, though it was not immediately clear if he was struck by a bullet.

Police said officers at the Klaverblad in the Noord-Brabant town found a “disturbed” individual who had taken a knife to himself. Neighbors told local newspaper BN De Stem that they heard four shots fired inside a home after police broke down the door to enter.

One person was hurt in an early morning shooting in Amsterdam-Zuidoost on Saturday. Several shots rang out at 4:30 a.m., records show, with dispatchers sending out several ambulances, police officers, and a trauma team by helicopter.

The shooting took place after an argument on the street, neighbors told local broadcaster AT5. A reporter for the broadcaster said a man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg.

His condition was not immediately revealed.

A batch of 550 kilograms of cocaine was found in an empty sea container at the Port of Rotterdam on Monday. As part of the ensuing investigation, authorities arrested nine alleged drug smugglers at the port over the past week, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said in a statement.

"The narcotics were presumably taken from a recently arrived container and transferred to the empty container for subsequent collection," the OM said in a statement. "In the past few days, nine so-called 'extractors' have been arrested."

Two men and two women were arrested last week in connection with the February kidnapping of a 65-year-old Rotterdam woman. All four suspects were remanded into custody, police said on Friday, while prosecutors and officers press ahead with their investigation.

The alleged kidnapping took place on the Eliotplaats in Rotterdam on February 9 when the woman was taken in a van and held captive. “On February 11, a ransom was paid and the kidnappers released the woman on a public road in Zaandam,” police stated.

A 60-year-d Dutch man was found dead in a home in Portugal on Thursday. Traces of violence was found on his body and murder is suspected. The police are investigating, the Telegraaf reports.

The man's body was found in his home in Sito do Barranco Novo, in Vila do Bispo in the Portuguese Algarve. He was last seen alive at a party over the weekend. A friend called the police after they were unable to reach him for days.

According to reports in local media, the man had injuries to his face and head. The police believe he died at least 24 hours before his body was found.
