A 35-year-old American man was arrested at Schiphol Airport on Monday after airport security discovered a loaded firearm in the man’s backpack. The backpack was part of the man’s hand luggage, which was scanned as part of routine security procedures.

Security workers alerted officers from the Marechaussee after the discovery at 7:30 a.m. The suspect was taken into custody, and was still being held a day later. An arraignment hearing in front was expected on Wednesday while the Marechaussee continued its investigation.

Police in Rotterdam issued a public alert on Tuesday night for any information about Hicham Mimouni, suspected of involvement in an apparent assassination attempt in the Zuid-Holland city. The shooting took place just before 9 p.m. on May 21, and left a 31-year-old in critical condition.

Dutch football association KNVB suspended a 34-year-old linesman from Haarlem football club Geel-Wit for three years for punching an UNO goalkeeper unconscious in March. Ministers Hugo de Jonge of Public Health and Sander Dekker for Legal Protection launched a television campaign to increase awareness on how to recognize and report the abuse of the elderly people. New commercials for the campaign will start appearing on television this week.

A police canine team in Almelo found a missing 88-year-old woman from the Overijssel city on Monday night. Authorities then rescued the woman who was conscious, but suffering from symptoms of hypothermia, police said.

The woman, who uses a walker, went missing from the Aletta Jacobsstraat at about 4:15 p.m. “In the night, the missing woman was found by a dog handler. He was searching with his service dog in the vicinity of the location provided [online],” police said in a statement.

The Dutch are suspected of delivering psychoactive substances, popularly called designer drugs, to thousands of German buyers, the Dutch police said in a statement. This involved at least 15 thousand shipments, according to the police.

Two Dutch women were hit by a car near the Spanish village of Fresno del Camino on Sunday morning. A 63-year-old woman from Utrecht died in hospital. Her 67-year-old friend is in critical condition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to NOS after reports in Spanish media.

The accident happened on the hiking route to the popular pilgrimage town of Santiago de Compostela. The two women were walking through the city of Leon. They were hit by the car at a tunnel near Fresno del Camino, according to the broadcaster.

A police station in Zutphen was covered with swastikas and the letters SS, the abbreviation for Adolf Hitler's personal guard and eventual parliamentary organization the Schutzstaffel, local police officer Yilmaz Uluçay said on Instagram. He calls on witnesses to come forward.

The vandalism to the police station on Houtwal happened sometime on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning, Uluçay believes. The Nazi symbols were chalked onto the building's windows.

An unlicensed taxi driver seen soliciting passengers in Schiphol Plaza at the airport was found in possession of a gun, the Marechaussee said in a statement. The man was held in custody at about 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Authorities said the 30-year-old was well-known to authorities. He was questioned at the scene and admitted to offering his services as an unlicensed taxi operator, the statement said.

"When asked if the man had weapons or other illegal items, he said he had a weapon on him. A firearm was found in a neck pouch," the Marechaussee said.

"His supervisors are very concerned about his wellbeing", the police said, adding that the boy only speaks Arabic and doesn't know the Netherlands particularly well.
