A Dordrecht court handed out a conviction and 10-year prison sentence to a man found guilty of starting a fire in Rotterdam last year which claimed the life of 27-year-old Robert Hendrix. The court agreed with the prosecutor who accused the man of using gasoline to deliberately set his own home on fire last April.

A 19-year-old man from Breda accused of taking down two government websites on March 19 was arrested by police on Friday. The suspect was suspected of using a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) cyberattack to take down and, which were offline for several hours because of the incident, police said.

Information website "was and is frequently visited because of the corona crisis. The availability of this site to citizens is crucial for the country, especially during these times," police said.

Five people were seriously injured in a car accident on the A16 highway near Zevenbergschen Hoek, Noord-Brabant early on Friday morning. The 45-year-old motorist from Poland crashed his car into another vehicle containing five other people from the same country. A pole went straight through the car, seriously injuring the people inside.

A Rotterdam police officer was kicked and bitten last night after authorities tried to break up a group of people violating the ban on crowds. A 30-year-old Rotterdam man has been arrested in connection with the incident, the police confirmed.

Officers were dispatched to the Bellamystraat in the Spangen neighborhood at around 8.15 pm on Tuesday to handle a large group of people that had gathered there. Police said that when officers arrived the group quickly turned against them, which caused a scuffle that resulted in one officer being attacked.

Police officers in The Hague shot a man in his leg while arresting him on Honthorststraat during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The man was taken to hospital for treatment, the police said on Twitter.

The police responded to Honthorststraat after a noise complaint, a police spokesperson said to newspaper AD. At the involved home, responding officers found a man holding a stabbing weapon. They tried to speak to the man, but eventually had to call in an arrest team, the spokesperson said.

Police in the Netherlands have so far handed out over 1,400 fines to people for violating coronavirus social distancing rules since the rules came into effect on March 27. Under the current rules, fines may be issued to anyone over 12 years of age standing within 1.5 meters of two or more other people.

The rules, which do not hold for people living in the same household, are meant to prevent crowding and thus slow the spread of coronavirus. Adults are eligible for a fine of 390 euros for violating the rules, while minors may be handed a lighter penalty of 95 euros.

One person was killed and another injured in a fire in a home on Bieslookweg in Tilburg, Noord-Brabant on Monday evening. The fire likely started in the attic of the terraced house, a police spokesperson said to Omroep Brabant.

The two victims, who lived in the house, were rescued from the home. One succumbed to their injuries, the other was taken to hospital. There were more people in the home when the fire started. They managed to get outside unharmed.

The extent of the injured person's injuries is unknown. The police did not reveal the victims' identities.

The FIOD, the Tax Authority's investigative department, arrested two men on Monday on suspicion of stealing 900 thousand euros in a scam involving medical masks. The 51-year-old man from Oldenzaal and a 61-year-old man from Amersfoort posed as suppliers of protective equipment and "sold" 11 million nonexistent medical masks to two buyers, FIOD said in a statement.

One restaurant in Amsterdam Oost was struck by gunfire three separate times in a one-week period leading up to Saturday. There were no injuries in any of the incidents on Borneosteiger.

In the most recent case, which took place Saturday at about 3:10 a.m., the glass front door was destroyed after having been hit by several bullets. A bullet hole was easily visible in another front glass windowpane.

Members of the public who deliberately cough or spit at police officers will be forced to be immediately tested for coronavirus, if a new emergency measure put forward on Friday wins parliamentary approval.

The law has been put in place after a spate of spitting and coughing incidents aimed at police, bus drivers, and store personnel were recorded in recent weeks, prompting concerns over the transmission of the coronavirus.

The coronavirus crisis is also having an effect on the the Netherlands' criminal underworld. The police received information that planned assassinations are being postponed after social distancing measures were implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19, Jan Struijs of police union NPB said to the Telegraaf.

According to Struijs, the slow down in murder attempts may have to do with the emptier streets - getaway cars are now easier to spot and follow. "The chance of getting caught is greater now," he said to the newspaper.

These online stores offered items ranging from antibacterial bank cards, to a Covid-19 tracker, and included multiple web shops offering medical masks for sale, the police said in a statement.

A pedestrian walking in Duivendrecht Wednesday morning found the body of 21-year-old Matthew McCombe. The Scottish man had been missing since March 14, after he left his hotel early that morning.

Police would not speculate on foul play, saying only that his cause of death was under investigation, police told NL Times. His body was found at about 9:10 a.m. in the water at the Molenkade, part of a wide area where volunteers and rescue workers had focused their efforts in the two weeks after he disappeared.

A man was attacked with a machete in a home on Carnisselaan in Rotterdam on Tuesday evening. He was taken to hospital with non-critical injuries, the police said on Twitter. Four suspects were arrested.

The attack happened at around 9:00 p.m. The four suspects fled the home towards The Hague, the police said. Searching officers found them on them driving on the A13 highway.

Police say they have found the 33-year-old man wanted in connection with the deaths of his two children, their mother, and their grandmother. Authorities were searching for Onur K. after the four were found dead in their home in Etten-Leur, Noord-Brabant on Saturday evening.

The announcement was made just before 4 p.m. by police working in the Breda district. Officers would only say that the man was found in Etten-Leur, but no other details were immediately available.

Customs authorities intercepted over 2 thousand kilograms of cocaine at the port of Rotterdam in multiple discoveries on Friday and Monday, the Public Prosecutor announced. The drugs were found hidden in shipments of fruit or fruit products from Brazil and Costa Rica.

On Friday, 1,170 kilograms of cocaine were found hidden in a container loaded with mangoes from Brazil. The shipment was destined for a company in Zwaag.

A Van Gogh masterpiece was stolen during an early morning break-in at the Singer Museum in Laren, museum officials confirmed Monday afternoon. The theft of the painting, called "De Lentetuin," shocked and angered museum management, they said during a press conference.

Police issued an alert on Sunday for 33-year-old Onur K., wanted for questioning after four people were found killed in a home including his two young children. The mother of the children and their grandmother were also found dead in the Etten-Leur home on Saturday evening.

Authorities did not immediately identify K. as a suspect. "We are also concerned about his well-being," police said. "For this reason, we are also publishing his photo to find him as soon as possible."

The bodies of four people were found inside a house in Etten-Leur, Noord-Brabant on Saturday night, police said. The victims were possibly residents of the home, prompting a criminal investigation.

Firefighters were initially dispatched to the scene shortly after 6:10 p.m. when foul smell was reported in the area. Police descended on the scene a little while later. Once there, the deceased were found in the Dassenburcht home.

Beaches, streets and public areas across the Netherlands stood largely quiet on Saturday as the public continued to adhere to the new rule that requires 1.5 meters distance to be kept between people. The quietude comes in spite of the fair weather forecasts for the weekend which similarly drew large crowds to gather a week ago even after government and health officials pleaded with them to remain home as much as possible to help quell the coronavirus pandemic.
