A 50-year-old bicyclist was shot in the leg on Saturday afternoon in Eindhoven. The victim, from Nuenen, was cycling on a path along the Wolvendijk at about 4 p.m. when he suddenly discovered he was wounded.

He was treated at an area hospital and released later that day, police said. In the ensuing investigation, evidence technicians found “several projectiles from a firearm” not far from where the victim was found.

Two people were arrested in connection with a shooting in Rotterdam that left a resident from the city injured. The seriousness of the man’s wounds was not revealed by police. The 27-year-old was hospitalized following the crime.

The shooting took place just after 9 p.m. on Friday at the Jagthuisstraat. Police found the victim near the intersection with Beukelsdijk.

Police dispatched to the scene of a home on Troelstrastraat in Rotterdam found over a dozen guns, some cash, and also a small quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia on Thursday night. A call to emergency services requesting assistance at the house brought authorities to the scene, and two men took off running when the officers were spotted.

One of the two, a 29-year-old from The Hague, was captured and held by authorities. A 26-year-old man from Rotterdam with minor facial lacerations was also taken into custody when he refused to identify himself, police said.

The Public Prosecutor dropped the case against two men suspected of the murder of Esther Paul from Almere in 2017. There is not enough evidence to convincingly tie Mike J. and his son-in-law Victor K. to the 43-year-old woman's murder, the Telegraaf reports.

Alexander and Luna Johnson, the American couple who was present when Dutch model Ivana Smit died in Malaysia in December 2017, is taking legal action to try and stop Ivana's family from accusing them of involvement in her death. "We are innocent, but have been under fire for a year and a half due to a smear campaign. Enough is enough", the couple said to newspaper AD.

The police in Maastricht are searching for a student who jumped from the Wilhelminabrug into the Maas with a second student on Friday morning. One student made it to shore, the other is still missing, the police said to the Telegraaf.

The two jumped off the bridge at around 8:15 a.m., according to eye witnesses who called the police. One of the students made it to shore a short time later, but the other disappeared under water. The police are looking for the second student with all their might. Ships in the area have also been informed.

Dutch man Ewold Horn was killed on Friday morning while trying to escape his hostage takers in the Philippines, the Philippine military said in a statement. The Dutch birdwatcher has been a hostage of terrorist organization Abu Sayyaf for years.

"I am shocked by this terrible outcome, and express my sympathies to Ewold's family," Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Stef Blok said in a statement about the Groningen man. "I have also been in contact with the family. I am going to ask my Filipino counterpart for further clarification.”

These sites often also include 'coaches', who guide girls and even scold or punish them if they don't do as told. These 'pro-ana-coaches' are often men who deliberately seek out girls with eating disorders to get nude photos or even sex from them, according to the first results of a Dutch study into these coaches, NOS reports.

A man was killed in a shooting incident in the Utrecht neighborhood of Lombok on Thursday evening. The perpetrators are at large. This was the second shooting in Lombok this week. On Wednesday morning, a fish shop on Laan van Nieuw Guinea and a building on the nearby Moskeeplein were shot at.

The shooting on Thursday night happened at around 9:20 p.m. on Kanaalstraat, near Soendastraat, NU.nl reports. The victim died at the scene.

Seven counter-protesters who were arrested at a Pegida demonstration in Eindhoven on Sunday, were released again on Wednesday, the Public Prosecutor said. Three minors also arrested at the protest were released on Sunday after questioning. Pegida announced a new protest in the city this coming Sunday.

A woman was nearly abducted in the Noord-Brabant town of Vlijmen on Monday, May 6th. A man pulled her from her bicycle and tried to push her into a car, but she managed to get away. The police are looking for witnesses or anyone with information that may aid in this investigation.

The attempted abduction happened at round 10:35 p.m. The woman was cycling over Heidjijk in Vlijmen and onto Moerputtenweg, on her way to work in Den Bosch. There was little to no traffic at that time. She heard a car approaching from behind her, and was overtaken at high speed a moment later.

Nearly 18 years ago, Dutch kickboxer Coen de Nijs was shot and killed in the center of Alkmaar. This week police finally came one step closer to solving the crime.

A 46-year-old Estonian man was arrested on Tuesday, suspected of playing a role in the street killing. The man admitted to being involved in the incident, police said in a statement on Thursday.

The murder happened on June 22, 2001, when De Nijs was shot from behind while he was near the corner of Zevenhuizen and Gasthuisstraat in the Noord-Holland city. De Nijs died at the scene.

A fugitive Dutch man was arrested in Spain on Wednesday. 71-year-old Leonardus 'Lei' B. was sentenced to  life in prison by a Belgian court earlier this month for the murder of his ex-wife ten years ago, RTL Nieuws reports.

In December 2009 B. shot and killed his ex-wife Josee Widdershoven in Vucht out of frustration about their divorce. He then fled. After managing to avoid the authorities for years, the Sittard-born man was finally arrested in Calpe, Spain on Wednesday.

The Ministry for Legal Protection implemented a number of extra measures and stricter rules for psychiatric institutions that treat prisoners following the murder of Anne Faber, Minister Sander Dekker said in a letter to parliament. The 25-year-old woman was raped and killed by Michael P., who was being treated by such a clinic at the time for the last part of the prison sentence he received for raping two minor girls.

A 56-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with the death of an elderly woman. Both the man and the victim, 78, are from the small village Oostkapelle, Zeeland, and were residing in the same apartment complex.

The Dutch investigative authorities like customs and the police do not work well together in combating drug trafficking in the port of Rotterdam, researchers at Erasmus University concluded after an extensive study commissioned by the Rotterdam municipality, police, customs and Public Prosecutor. Information is not always shared and the authorities mainly focus on so-called "retrievers" of the drugs, which means that the organizers of the drug shipments remain out of reach, the researchers said, NOS reports.

Shots were fired at two buildings in the Utrecht neighborhood of  Lombok during the early hours of Wednesday morning. A fish shop on Laan van Nieuw Guinea and a building on the nearby Moskeeplein were targeted. As far as is known, no one was injured, a spokesperson for the police said to NU.nl. 

The shooting happened at around 4:30 a.m. The police cordoned off the area and a police helicopter was deployed to survey the scene from above. Forensic investigators are at the scene.

The Central Netherlands court in Utrecht issued a ban of the outlaw motorcycle gang Hells Angels in the Netherlands. That makes the Netherlands the first country in the world to completely ban the Hells Angels, according to broadcaster NOS. Other countries, including Germany, banned local chapters, but not the entire club.

A construction worker was killed Tuesday morning in an accident at a parking garage construction site alongside the Amersfoort Zoo. The accident happened just before 10:45 a.m., and photos from the scene published by local news outlets showed an overturned metal staircase at the site of the accident.

No details were released by authorities early Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses told broadcaster RTV Utrecht that the accident involved the installation of the metal staircase.
