Police officers found a 17-year-old girl who had been missing for several days at a hotel in Middelburg on Wednesday evening. The police fear she was being forced to work as a prostitute. Two persons were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, the police said on Thursday.

Information that the teenage girl may be working for an escort company led the police to the Middelburg hotel on Wednesday. The suspects, a 22-year-old man from Zierikzee and an 18-year-old woman from Rotterdam, were arrested when they arrived at the hotel with the girl at around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

NOS reporter Robert Bas was jailed by the court in Rotterdam because he refused to answer questions as a witness and reveal his source in an ongoing criminal case. He will be held in custody until at least Monday, NOS reports. The court hopes that this "legal means of coercion" will make the reporter change his mind and give testimony, the broadcaster writes.

The Public Prosecutor submitted a list of 29 suspected Dutch jihadists that it wants to bring back from Syria to the Netherlands to face justice, the Ministry of Justice and Security confirmed to NRC. That is a significant increase from the 10 requests submitted earlier this year.

A fatal shooting on Hugo de Grootplein in Amsterdam-West on Wednesday left local business owners shocked. The victim was 49-year-old Goran Savic from Serbia, the owner of pizzeria La Piccola Baracca, where the shooting happened. According to witnesses, he was shot in front of his wife. Savic was trying to protect his friend - a Serbian criminal named Jovan Durovic, who was seriously injured in the shooting, newspaper AD reports.

A truck in which 39 bodies were found on an industrial site in Grays, east of London on Wednesday, belonged to Edwin Kluft Transport from Hoogeveen three years ago. "Bizar", Kluft said to AD. "Very sad what happened in England."

Kluft said that he sold the red truck to a dealer in central Netherlands three years ago. "After that it was resold a number of times and eventually ended up in Bulgaria."

Three teenagers were convicted on Tuesday, accused of creating a fake social media profiles to request nude photos of students. The two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old were convicted of pretending to be a teacher, who later found the fake profile portraying him and reported it to authorities.

A search team working on the disappearance of a pregnant University of Amsterdam student found the body of a dead man in the course of their latest probe. The team was combing the Robbenoordbos, a forest near Wieringerwerf, on Tuesday hunting for clues in the case of Sumanta Bansi, a young woman from Suriname who went missing in February 2018.

Police in Noord-Holland confirmed the grizzly discovery on Tuesday night. The identity of the victim and his cause of death were unknown.

Two people were injured in a shooting incident in Amsterdam West on Wednesday. One of them died at the scene, and the other was in critical condition. Police said shots rang out at about 3:45 p.m. on the Hugo de Grootplein, and two suspects fled the scene.

"At the time of the shooting incident many people were present at Hugo de Grootplein," Amsterdam police stated. "Thus the detectives are urgently looking for witnesses who have seen or heard something, or who have [photos or videos]."

The police arrested a 22-year-old man from Eindhoven in connection with multiple cases of grave robbing and -desecration at cemeteries in the Eindhoven and Veldhoven region. During searches performed as part of the investigation, the police found ash remain likely stolen from crematoriums and cemeteries. "Detectives are making every effort to determine who these remains are from", the police said in a statement on Wednesday.

Violence and aggression are commonplace within the walls of the psychiatric prison institutions in the Netherlands. A serious incident occurs in one of the 13 such institutions more than once a week, the Telegraaf reports based on figures requested from the Ministry of Justice and Security.

The Ministry only provided the Telegraaf with figures on incidents of violence among patients themselves and of incidents of violence by patients directed at staff resulting in serious injury. Since the start of 2017, there has been 169 such incidents, according to the newspaper.

A 48-year-old man held for questioning in connection with the death of a woman and a baby in an apartment in Diemen on Friday, is financial planner and pension expert Dennis van E., neighbors told newspaper AD. 

The bodies of the woman and child were found in the home on Martin Luther Kinglaan on Friday, the Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday. The tenant of the home - Van E., according to his immediate neighbors - was detained that same day.

Many of these cases involved things like falsely reporting a laptop stolen or staging a collision. But some fraudsters go much further, such as a dentist who amputated his own finger to get a disability benefit. "The finger ws removed very carefully. The dentist had not lost it due to an accident as he claimed", a spokesperson for the association of insurers VvV said to NOS.

The police confiscated a massive 5,856 bottles of beer from an empty building in Rotterdam on Tuesday. Three police vans were needed to drive the 244 boxes full of - believed to be stolen - beer away from the building, the Charlois police said on Instagram.

Police officers saw men dragging the large amount of boxes into the empty building on Hilledijk during the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to AD. They spoke to the men and became suspicious that the very many bottles of Heineken had been stolen. One suspect was arrested.

A woman and a child were found dead in a home on Martin Luther Kinglaan in Diemen on Friday, the Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday. The police arrested a 48-year-old man, the tenant of the home.

According to AT5, the victims are a mother and her newborn baby. The police initially did not think that the mother and child were killed in a crime, but now have strong indications that this was the case, the Amsterdam broadcaster writes.

One person was killed and six people were hurt in an accident on the A73 highway near Nijmegen on Tuesday. At least three people were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The first ambulance was dispatched to the scene just before 9:45 a.m., followed by a trauma team by helicopter a few minutes later. A total of five paramedic teams were sent out, excluding the trauma helicopter. The situation was elevated to a GRIP 1 at 10:03 a.m. - which means that a commanding officer from one of the emergency services took command of the entire scene for all responding agencies.

Online friends of Gerrit Jan van D. are shocked by the accusations that he kept his children trapped on a farm in Ruinerwold for nine years. They describe him as a nice man who was "good to his children" to newspaper AD. The Telegraaf found - now deleted - posts on Facebook and LinkedIn that indicate that son Jan visited Canada in 2015 and earlier this year, indicating that he maybe was not being held captive, according to the newspaper.

A teacher at primary school De Voorzaan in Zaandam was suspended after complaints from ten concerned parents about corporal punishments used in her classroom. The woman teaches group 3 at the school, the class typically consisting of children between the ages of 5 and 7 years.

According to the concerned parents, children are belittled and physically hit with a stick in her class, NH Nieuws reports. They are sometimes also forced to eat their lunch off the ground.

Police in Purmerend say one man was arrested after a dead body was found in an apartment there.  Several investigative units were called to the scene on Burgemeester D. Kooimanweg, including forensic evidence team, police said.

The body was found on Monday morning in the Noord-Holland town under “suspicious circumstances,” police said without elaborating. An apartment in the De Beemster complex was the focus of the investigation.

No information about the victim, the suspect, or their relationship was revealed as of early Monday afternoon.

A group of 20 civil society organizations, led by anti-discrimination action group Controle Alt Delete, filed an official complaint against the police unit Den Haag. According to the organizations, the police in The Hague have been ignoring signals and reports of discrimination within the police for years and that must change. The complaint was filed with National Police chief Erik Akerboom, and a copy was sent to Minister Ferdinand Grappenhaus of Justice and security.

The 67-year-old father of six adult children kept concealed on a remote farm was ordered back into custody as the investigation into the case continues. The magistrate presiding over the case sent Gerritt Jan van D. back to jail for a 14-day period, which may be further extended at the court's discretion, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
