The police are investigating the death of a 78-year-old woman in her apartment in Oostkapelle on Friday. Initial investigation revealed that the woman was likely killed in a crime, the police said in a statement on Monday evening.

The victim was found seriously injured in the apartment on Veldzigt at around 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Emergency services tried in vain to save her life. She died at the scene.

Three cars went up in flames in Gouda during the early hours of Tuesday morning. That brings the number of car fires in the city up to 23 since May 3rd. The police suspect arson in all cases.

At around 00:25 a.m., the first car caught fire on Boelhouwerstraat in Oosterwei, near the crossing with Van Roijenstraat, AD reports. Firefighters were quickly at the scene, but the car burned out completely. The second car fire happened a short time later on Veenenburg in Bloemendaal. The third car fire on Oostmolenpad was reported at around 5:00 a.m.

Police in the Netherlands found 14 foreign people hidden inside the cargo hold of a truck on Saturday. The people found were mostly adult men, and at least one boy, from the Palestinian territories, Syria and Yemen.

Ten of the people taken from the truck were found in a different truck at the same location on May 11, police said. They were given a two-year ban on entering Europe when they were sent out of the Netherlands.

The police had to intervene at the Romanian embassy in The Hague on Sunday after a group of furious eligible voters stormed the embassy. The embassy closed its doors - and therefore also that of the polling station inside - at 8:00 p.m., before many Romanian voters, many of whom had stood in line for hours, could cast their vote. As far as is known, no arrests were made, RTL Nieuws reports.

The police and Public Prosecutor are launching an app with which victims can investigate crimes themselves. According to the police, citizens are increasingly taking action themselves if they fall victim to a crime. The authorities are trying to respond to this development, and facilitate people in their investigation, with the app. An experiment with this app will start on June 1st in four police units. The experiment will initially only involve victims of robbery or theft, the police said in a statement.

A car went up in flames on Plaswijckweg in Gouda during the early hours of Friday morning. The Citroen was destroyed by the fire. This is the 19th car fire in the city since May 3rd.

The fire brigade responded to the scene at around 1:45 a.m., according to newspaper AD. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but the car could not be saved.

In the past month, a total of 19 cars went up in flames in various areas across Gouda. The police suspect arson in every one of these fires.

The Public Prosecutor (OM) in the Netherlands plans to move forward with a case against RTL Boulevard presenter Alberto Stegeman, who is accused of sneaking past security on a military site and leaving a fake bomb in its mess hall. Like in previous years, the number of crimes registered in the Netherlands decreased last year. In 2018, 6 percent fewer crimes were registered than in 2017, the Public Prosecutor said in its annual report on Thursday. The Dutch authorities also seized over 171 million euros in criminal assets. But while the total number of registered crimes decreased, the declining trend seemed to start reversing in the second half of the year, the Prosecutor said.

An 18-year-old man was killed in an accident on Maasboulevard in Rotterdam on Wednesday. The young man was hanging - voluntarily, according to the police - out of the passenger-side window of a moving car when he hit his head against a pole standing by the road.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to newspaper AD. The car came to a stop over 200 meters from the pole. Emergency services tried to save the victim at the zebra crossing at Willemsbrug, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

The police believe Luntungan was the one who fired the gunshots that killed Orpheo Gefferie, a 25-year-old father from Almere, in a parking garage on Amstelstraat on Saturday morning.

An exam stunt at VMBO school Het Hooghuis in Oss got completely out of hand last week. Masked pupils ran through the corridors, throwing things and kicking open doors. One person was injured, and other pupils feared they were under attack. The police are investigating the incident, BN De Stem reports.

The incident happened at the Zuid location of the VMBO school last week Wednesday. "Some children really panicked, they thought there was an attack", one pupil said to the newspaper.

The police arrested two suspects in connection with a fire at a primary school in Renkum in Gelderland on Tuesday evening. Both suspects are minors, aged 13 and 17 years old, and come from the Gelderland village, the police said on Wednesday.

The fire at the Albert Schweitzerschool broke out at around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, NU.nl reports. Firefighters quickly established that it was arson. The first suspect was arrested at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, shortly after the fire was extinguished. The second suspect was arrested 30 minutes later.

Under the new law you can be punished both if you know the other person did not want to have sex, and if you could have known that. A video of a shooting in The Hague neighborhood of Schilderswijk last week was posted on streaming site Dumpert on Monday night. The video shows a fight breaking out on the street, during which one of those involved fired multiple shots.

The shooting happened on the corner of  Ruijsdaelstraat and Brueghelstraat on May 15th, AD reports. An 18-year-old man later reported to the hospital with a bullet wound. The police arrested three young men, aged 18, 18 and 23, later that same evening for involvement in the shooting.

With the help of a new computer system, the Dutch police managed to track down and detain 585 people who still had to serve a prison sentence in the past seven months. A new app allows police officers to immediately check whether someone they stop still have outstanding penalties against them, and immediately take them into custody if they still have to go to prison, AD reports.
