Anthony B. was sentenced to 40 months in prison and institutionalized psychiatric treatment for child sex abuse and child pornography. The court found him guilty of sexually abusing 24 predominantly minor victims in the Gelderland village of Alem, De Gelderlander reports.

An 18-year-old man from Amsterdam was sentenced to 18 months in prison, four of which conditionally suspended, by the court in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The court found him guilty of hanging a hand grenade on an outer wall of football club ADO's supporters home in The Hague. Two other men were acquitted, NU.nl reports.

Police in Venlo arrested four men accused of ripping off the Holland Casino location there. The suspects were also persons of interest in similar crimes investigated by Interpol, and may have targeted other casinos in Europe including in the Netherlands.

Officers said the suspects tried to manipulate the results of an automatic roulette machine by first breaking the lid, then lifting the glass off the game. “After that, the ball was probably stopped in the ‘right’ box after which it registered a ‘win,’” police said in a statement.

Sixteen undocumented migrants were found hiding in the back of a truck at the port of IJmuiden on Thursday. Among them were four children, one woman and eleven men, of various nationalities, the Koninklijke Marechaussee, a military policing force tasked with border security, said on Facebook. 

An employee at the port, who asked to remain anonymous, told NH Nieuws that the children were "no older than around 8". He was there when the truck was opened. "There stood a small boy with a teddy bear in his hands", the port worker said.

A man died in a shooting on Putsebocht in Rotterdam-Zuid on Wednesday night. The police are looking for the perpetrators. The circumstances around the shooting are not yet clear.

The shooting happened at around 10:30 p.m. First responders tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Witnesses told newspaper AD that the man was sitting in a gray Opel Astra when someone fired six to eight shots at him. Another witness saw a man dressed in dark clothes running away.

A massive response to an aircraft boarding at Schiphol Airport on Wednesday evening turned out to be a false alarm, according to the airline involved. The crew of an Air Europa flight to Madrid had already boarded 27 passengers when a pilot accidentally pressed the emergency distress button in the cockpit at about 6:45 p.m., the airline said.

A large contingent of authorities and officers were dispatched to the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Wednesday night because of an incident on an aircraft. "We are currently investigating a suspicious situation aboard an aircraft at Schiphol," said the Marechaussee, a branch of the Dutch military tasked with protecting airports and borders.

The incident was a false alarm, according to airline Air Europa.

The authorities seized a total of 1,550 kilograms of cocaine in two shipments destined for Vlissingen at the port of Rotterdam in October. In both cases the drugs were hidden in banana shipments from Ecuador, the Public Prosecution Service said on its website.

A man responsible for a fatal accident on the A2 highway near Breukelen last month, previously caused at least three other accidents. Two people and the 38-year-old man from Vianen himself were killed in the accident last month. The man suffered from epileptic seizures and his licenses should have been revoked, the newspaper writes.

Lawyer Philippe Schol was walking his dog some 50 meters from his home on Lossersestraße in Gronau when he was shot by persons in a passing car at around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The victim told neighbors who rushed to help him that he was shot by two men he knows and that they were driving a Volkswagen Polo, the neighbors told newspaper AD.

A nurse was stabbed at a mental healthcare institution in Castricum on Tuesday evening. He was taken to hospital with unknown injuries, but in a stable condition, the police said in a statement. A 40-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested as a suspect a short time after the stabbing.

The police responded to the institution on Oude Parklaan at around 8:40 p.m. At the scene they found that the suspect had fled in the direction of the train station. The 40-year-old Amsterdam man was arrested on Kramersweg and taken to a police station for questioning.

A lawyer from Enschede was injured in a shooting in Gronau, just across the border in Germany near the Twente village of Glane, on Wednesday morning. He was walking in the street when he was shot at from a moving car. The lawyer was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, AD reports.

The police assume this was a targeted action against the lawyer. "There must be a relationship between perpetrator and victim", a police spokesperson said to AD. The man was conscious and able to communicate with first responders, the spokesperson said.

Last year the Netherlands held 210 children in detention centers, some of them for up to 82 days. 900 children who applied for asylum in the Netherlands were sent back to their country of origin or another European Union country last year, RTL Nieuws reports.

A 34-year-old man had hydrochloric acid poured over him on Johan M. Coenenstraat in Amsterdam on Monday. A 63-year-old man was arrested on aggravated assault. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.

The police responded to the scene at around 1:40 p.m. on Monday, after receiving a report of someone being doused with hydrochloric acid. When the responding officers arrived, the 63-year-old man immediately came up to them and told them that he threw hydrochloric acid into the victim's face.

Jeweler Franc Cortenbach on Grotestraat in Waalwijk was robbed on Saturday night. Three perpetrators forced their way into the store and the above home and tied up and assaulted the two owners, according to the police, Brabants Dagblad reports.

The business was closed when the robbers broke in at around 10:00 p.m. But the two owners, who live above the store, were home at the time.

The case of 27-year-old Den Haag man accused of fatally stabbing three dog walkers at two separate locations earlier this year was in court on Monday, where prosecutors revealed that the knife used in two of the killings may have come from the kitchen of the suspect’s parents. At the previous hearing in August, Thijs H. confessed to the murders, claiming that he had a psychotic break and that the news reports he had watched told him to commit the heinous acts.
