The number of money laundering cases that ended up in court last year increased by a quarter to 1,499 last year. Sentences were imposed in 997 of those cases, an increase of 22 percent compared to 2018, BNR reports based on figures from the Council of Judiciary.

A 21-year-old man from Limburg was sentenced to two years in juvenile detention, six months of which conditionally suspended, for deliberately crashing his car into the audience at a racing event in Leende in September last year. The court in Den Bosch found him guilty of multiple counts of attempted manslaughter, RTL Nieuws reports.

The police forced a car off the road in Utrecht early on Tuesday morning and arrested the two people inside on suspicion of abducting a man from Eindhoven. Warning shots were fired during the arrests, the Oost-Brabant police said on Twitter. 

The police received a report of a man being forced into a car in Eindhoven. When patrolling officers spotted the car, they gave chase. The car was brought to a halt in Utrecht. As far as is known, no one was hurt.

One person was killed in a one-sided accident involving a carnival float on Op de Beukel in Meerssen, Limburg on Monday, the police said in a statement. The tractor dragging the float went off the road for unknown reasons.

The accident was reported to the police at around 5:30 p.m. Police officers, the fire brigade, and a number of ambulances were deployed to the scene. First responders tried to resuscitate the driver, but it was to no avail. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The data of 80 thousand Transavia passengers leaked out after an e-mail inbox containing the data was breached, the Dutch low-cost flyer said on Monday. The data that was released includes passengers’ full names, date of birth, flight information, booking number, luggage purchase, and additionally requested services like wheelchair assistance.

The KLM subsidiary said the data was in a file in the mailbox, but it did not say why the years-old passenger information was being kept that way.

Amsterdam saw a 43 percent increase in the number of murder and manslaughter cases last year, as well as a slight rise violent crimes. There was a decrease in most forms of property crimes, with a significant drop in picpocketing and theft from a vehicle, according to figures the Amsterdam municipality and police released on Monday.

The first average speed control cameras are now active on a Dutch provincial road - on the N414 between Baarn and Bunschoten. Another 19 provincial roads will also get point-to-point speed traps this year, in an effort to reduce the number of accidents on these roads, NOS reports.

"Two cameras on either side of a certain route measure exactly how long someone takes on the route," Achilles Damen of the Landelijk Verkeersparket said to NOS. "The system then calculates how fast someone drove on average on this route."

A 16-year-old boy from Amsterdam was killed and three other people were injured in a stabbing incident in Alphen aan den Rijn during the early hours of Sunday morning. An 18-year-old man from Alphen aan den Rijn was arrested. 

The police responded to a report of a stabbing in a home on Robijnstraat at around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. The 16-year-old boy fled from the home and was found near it. First responders tried to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the police said in a statement.

A 24-year-old Dutch-Chinese woman was attacked in the elevator on the way to her student flat in Tilburg after she asked a group of young people to stop singing a racist song about the coronavirus at her. Cindy was left with a concussion and several cuts, she said to RTL Nieuws.

NS offered apologies after a conductor played a football song about Jews on an intercity train between Tilburg in Rotterdam on Saturday evening. "Let it be clear: we find this completely inappropriate," the rail company said on Sunday after being alerted to the situation by a traveler, NOS reports.

The song was "Waar komen Joden toch vandaan", which translates to "Where do Jews come from". The song is regularly sung in the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam by Ajax supporters who use "Jews" as a nickname.

The number of ATM bombings in the Netherlands increased significantly last year, but in the vast majority of them the perpetrators did not get away with any cash, newspaper AD reports based on figures from the police's internal magazine Blauw.

Last year there were a total of 95 ATM bombings, an increase of 55 percent. In only 16 percent of cases did the perpetrators demonstrably get away with gash. In 68 percent of the cases, the authorities are certain that no money was stolen. In the other cases, the results were unclear.

Higher education students in Rotterdam were accused on Friday of sharing disturbing images and statements in chat groups, including material which was racist, anti-Semitic, and sexually offensive or harassing. The Hogeschool Rotterdam (HR) said the chat messages were shared in several education-related groups connected to the college and to the Erasmus University.

“We are very shocked by the cross-border nature of the messages,” said HR board chair Ron Bormans. “This behavior completely contravenes our norms and values ​​and is not tolerated by our applied sciences university.”

Authorities near Frankfurt, Germany arrested a Dutch driver after finding 50 thousand ecstasy tablets in his car worth over 350 thousand euros. He was remanded into custody by a magistrate, German police said in a statement issued on Friday.

The arrest happened during a routine patrol of the traffic routes into the Frankfurt area on February 12. Customs inspectors monitoring the area ordered the driver of a Volkswagen Up with Dutch license plates to pull over near a petrol station on Autobahn 3 in Medenbach.

A suspicious letter was found at a company on Schatbeurderlaan in Weert. The police are at the scene to investigate whether the case is another mail bomb in a series of incidents which began last January. The company was evacuated as a precaution, the Limburg police said on Twitter, with authorities on high alert for the incendiary devices, several of which have detonated.

One person was killed and two people were hurt in a stabbing incident at a care institution on Morel in Wageningen on Wednesday night, the Gelderland police said on Twitter. The police are investigating what happened. 

A police spokesperson could not give NOS any information regarding the victims' identities. No arrests were made, according to the broadcaster.
