Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim and owner of América Móvil offered to take over Dutch phone company Royal KPN NV for 2.40 euro a share.

América Móvil which owns almost 30 percent of KPN, made the public offer in a statement today.

Last month América Móvil ended an agreement with KPN, after KPN agreed to sell its German business E-Plus to Spain’s Telefonica, that capped the stake of the Mexican company in the Dutch phone carrier at about 30 percent. Slim now has more freedom to use KPN to expand in Europe.

Construction company BAM and dredging company Van Oord have been chosen for building a new container port in the British city of Liverpool. The deal is about more than 85 million euro. This was announced by the two companies on Wednesday.

The new container terminal will be commissioned by Peel Ports and will be situated at the river mouth of the river Mersey. The transhipment harbor will be made suitable for vessels with a loading capacity of up to 13,500 pieces of 20-foot containers, of which two can berth at the same time. The new port will be ready for use in 2015.

The profit of advertising site Marktplaats (Market Place) has for years been kept deliberately low, and therefore hardly had to pay tax, reports Yahoo!News based on requested annual  reports.

The annual reports show that eBay, owner of Marktplaats, has set up a special structure in 2005. That structure has apparently been set up, according to experts, to lower earnings in the Netherlands, so that less (profit) tax has to be paid. Marktplaats avoided in this way to pay a larger amount on tax. The special construction is allowed, by the way.
