Roughly 56 percent of the Dutch population believe that the government should not contribute 80 million euros in public funding for the purchase of two Rembrandt paintings, according to results from a weekly poll conducted by Maurice de Hond. France has committed 80 million euros in a bid to buy one of the two Rembrandt paintings that were conditionally sold to the Rijksmuseum for a combined 160 million. The museum orchestrated the purchase with 80 million euros from the Dutch government with the goal of bringing the marriage portraits of Maerten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit back to the Netherlands.

Using two complementary imaging techniques and new mobile scanners, researchers from Los Angeles, Antwerp and Delft has been able to reveal a painting hidden underneath Rembrandt's famous painting An Old Man in Military Costume, which is currently in The Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The hidden underlying painting shows a young man wrapped in a cloak.

The Van Gogh Museum is building a labyrinth consisting of 125 thousand sunflowers on the Museumplein to celebrate the opening of the new entrance building. The labyrinth will cover an area of 7,000 m² - nearly half of the Museumplein.

The police arrested a 56 year old man from Wanneperveen on Tuesday for trying to sell a fake Van Gogh painting for 15 million euros. The man claimed that the painting is a pre-study for Van Gogh's "The Harvest" and used fake documents, with the name and logo of the Van Gogh museum, to prove its authenticity.
