Video: Multiple boats damaged in fire at Leiden marina
A fire damaged at least eight boats in the marina on Oxfordlaan in Leiden overnight. At least three boats burned down completely, and at least one sank. As far as is known, no one was hurt, Omroep West reports.
The fire brigade responded to the marina at around 1:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, several boats were already ablaze, and large clouds of smoke hung above the marina.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within an hour, but the damage was enormous. A diesel leak may also have contaminated the marina's water. The fire brigade has informed the Rijnland Water Board that it needs to check the water quality.
At least eight boats sustained damage, including three with severe damage and one that sank. The Harbor Master informed the affected boat owners on Friday morning.
