Periods of sunshine and little wind expected on somewhat chilly King's Day
King’s Day started out cold in the Netherlands, but in most places, quite sunny. The rest of the day will be partly cloudy but dry, with little wind to hinder outside activities, according to the meteorological institute KNMI.
King’s Day will be a bit closer than New Year’s Day this year, though it has to be said that New Year’s Day was remarkably mild, with thermometers climbing to 15.6 degrees in De Bilt. Today’s maximums will range between 11 degrees on the Wadden to 15 degrees in some places in the southeast. The wind is weak to moderate and comes from the southeast.
In Rotterdam, where King Willem-Alexander and his family will spend his birthday, maximums will reach around 13 degrees.
Overnight, the temperatures dropped to around freezing, and that cold will linger in the ground, the Red Cross warned. Don’t let kids sit on the floor at the free markets today, the aid organization advised people going to sell their stuff. Take a chair, dress warmly, and remember to stay hydrated.
