Two hurt in shooting outside Arnhem grocery store; Three suspects wanted
With reporting by Cheyenne Martodikromo.
Police said two people were believed to be hurt at a shooting in front of a Jumbo grocery store in Arnhem. The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the shopping center on Oostburgwal in the city’s Zuid district.
Anonymous witnesses told local media that three men approached a fourth and beat him up. One man then pulled out a gun and shot the assaulted victim twice in the legs. About an hour later, a second injured man was found lying on his back on a bicycle path nearby along Batavierenweg. Witnesses said they believed he too was shot.
“The perpetrators are on the loose,” Gelderland Police said on social media. The three suspects wanted in connection with the shooting fled westbound towards Bredasingel, Arnhem Zuid Police said.
Authorities said they were searching for a male with medium complexion, approximately 25 years in age, standing at about 1.8 meters with short black hair, and black athletic clothing. Officers were also looking for a bare-chested young male with a medium skin tone and dreadlocks, and a third person wearing a black body warmer with red stripes, and blue track pants.
They were believed to be dangerous. Police said the public should call 1-1-2 if they see the suspects, and should not approach them.
Shortly after the shooting, two ambulances were dispatched to the scene along with police, and a trauma team in an ambulance. A police helicopter was seen circling over the area for an extended period of time after the Wednesday evening incident.
