Gelderland transmission mast on fire for third time
A transmission tower in the Gelderland town of Rijswijk was found burning for the third time this year during the early hours of Tuesday morning, the police confirmed to NU.nl. The other two fires in April and June involved arson. Whether arson was involved in this fire too, is still under investigation, a police spokesperson said.
The fire at the transmission mast on Veldweg was discovered at around 1:45 a.m., according to Gelreneiuews. It was quickly extinguished and the damage caused was not too extensive.
Since April 3, dozens of transmission towers in the Netherlands were set on fire. In June, the police said that the fires don't seem to be a coordinated attack. Six people were arrested in connection with the fires.
The national coordinator for counter-terrorism NCTV previously said the fires may be linked to online conspiracy theories around the 5G network.
