Car crashes into Deventer terrace; 5 hurt, 3 arrested
A car crashed into a terrace on Keizerstraat in Deventer on Sunday morning, injuring five people. The motorist fled the scene, but later turned himself in and was arrested. The police believe the crash was deliberate.
The emergency services responded to the scene at around 5:30 a.m., after a report that an Audi Q7 crashed into a terrace and then drove off. Five people were injured. Four of them were taken to hospital. The fifth's injuries could be treated at the scene.
Witnesses told the police that a serious fight, in which the Audi driver was also involved, preceded the incident. Another person believed to be involved in this fight was arrested and taken to a police station for questioning. Other information provided by witnesses led the police to the identity of the Audi driver.
The police called on the man to turn himself in. He did so later on Sunday morning, showing up at a police station elsewhere in the Netherlands. The 37-year-old man was arrested.
Investigators collected trace evidence at the scene, while other officers spoke to witnesses. The police call on witnesses who haven't spoken to an officer yet to come forward.
