Three killed, one hurt in Thursday accident on Dutch highway
Three people were killed in an accident on the A2 highway between Bruekelen and Vinkeveen on Thursday afternoon. The victims are a 38-year-old man from Vianen, and a man and woman from Bergen aan Zee, both aged 53, the police confirmed. A fourth victim was taken to hospital.
The accident happened at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Three cars were involved in the collision, two of which were completely destroyed, according to newspaper AD. The police believe that one of the cars ended up on the wrong side of the highway, crashing into oncoming traffic.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and the police call on witnesses with footage of the accident to come forward. "We certainly have our suspicions, but we are investigating all scenarios", a police spokesperson said to AD.
The accident and subsequent investigation and cleanup resulted in the A2 highway being closed until 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, according to NU.nl.
