Explosive left in Amsterdam ATM; locals ordered to stay inside
An explosive was left in an ATM on Van Limburg Stirumstraat in Amsterdam after a failed ATM bombing during the early hours of Monday morning. The Ministry of Defense's explosive removal department is at the scene. The police asked residents of surrounding homes to stay inside.
The police reported the discovery of the explosive at around 7:00 a.m. on Monday. The ATM is located next to a supermarket.
The failed attempt to blow the ATM open, and steal the cash inside, happened at around 3:45 a.m., the police said in a statement. The attempted bombing was reported to the police an hour later. Responding officers found the explosive in the ATM and called in the Ministry of Defense.
The Defense experts are currently working on removing the explosive safely. Until the device has been removed, local residents cannot leave their homes for their own safety, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter.
