KLM to accept no baggage during ground crew strikes today; some flights canceled
KLM ground crew workers are on strike between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. this morning. During that time, KLM will take no hold baggage on board. The airline also canceled a total of 16 flights - nine departures and seven arrivals. All canceled flights are flights within Europe, according to flight information from Schiphol.
Travelers are also advised to carry as little hand luggage as possible. "To prevent it from being left behind due to a lack of space", the airline said in a statement. People who do not want to travel without their luggage, can rebook their flight for free.
The ground crew workers are striking for better working conditions. The unions demand a wage increase of 8 percent over two years, a less flexible schedule, and for KLM to employ more if its ground crew workers on a permanent basis. So far KLM only offered a 3 percent wage increase in one year, according to NU.nl.
