Approaching thunderstorms: Code yellow warning for large parts of NL

Monday will be wet and dreary in the Netherlands, with thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow warning for all provinces except Noord-Holland, Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe and the Wadden islands.

The western and northern parts of the country may already see some storms on Monday morning. "But especially this afternoon and tonight, there will be some strong thunderstorms in the middle and south", the KNMI warns. Strong winds with gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour, hail, and lots of rain in a short period are expected. The code yellow warning is in place from 2:00 p.m. 

"Chance of lightning, hail and strong wind. Traffic and outside activities may be hindered.Avoid open water and open areas, do not shelter under trees. Follow weather reports and warnings", the KNMI warns.

Maximums will range between 19 degrees in the northwest and 22 degrees in the southeast on Monday. The moderate to strong wind will turn from southwest to west during the course of the day.
