Cool, autumn weather to hit Netherlands next week
Bad news for summer lovers! Friday will be the last really warm day in the Netherlands for the foreseeable future, according to Weerplaza. From next week the weather is clearly turning towards autumn.
Those who love the hot weather will do best to visit Limburg, De Achterhoek or Twente on Friday, according to the weather service. There temperatures will quickly rise to above 25 degrees, and may even hit 30 if the sun plays along. Though showers are expected in the afternoon. The rest of the country will be damp rather than warm. Maximums will range between 23 and 26 degrees, but with showers in the morning and afternoon. There is also a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.
Saturday's maximums will range between 20 degrees on Texel to around 25 degrees in the east and southeast of the country, with regular sunshine. The downside for Saturday is that it will be very windy. Deep inland the south-wester wind will be strong with gusts up to 75 kilometers per hour. Right by the sea, the wind will be stormy with gusts up to 100 kilometers per hour. Inland, the winds should die down during the course of the evening. But along the coast and on the Wadden islands, there will be strong winds well into the night.
Sunday will stay dry with maximums between 20 and 25 degrees - average temperatures for this time of year. Plenty of sunshine is expected, with significantly less wind than Saturday. This may well be the last nice summer's day of the year. "Make the most of this day!", Weerplaza advises.
Because from Monday, "summer will be out of the country for the time being and autumn is knocking on the door", the weather service said. Temperatures will drop and there will be plenty of rain. "We will have to wait and see if we are going to reach 20 degrees every day." The nights will also be colder, with minimums dropping to below 10 degrees. And halfway through the week, current forecasts predict that the wind will pick up in strength again. "There is currently no prospect of a significant improvement in the weather."
