Woman, 62, found killed in Hague home; Suspect arrested

A 62-year-old woman was found dead in her home on Van Diesenstraat in The Hague on Sunday afternoon. A 31-year-old man was arrested as a suspect, the police said in a brief statement.

Local residents told Omroep West that a mother and her son lived in the apartment, and that the son is the suspect in his mother's death. The son is known as a reserved, quiet guy. Neighbors describe the victim as "really a treasure of a person".

"I always thought he might be a bit limited", one neighbor said to the broadcaster about the suspect. His wife added: "But certainly not unpleasant, at least not to us." She cannot believe what happened. "I just cried. I just can't believe she isn't there anymore."

The victim's immediate neighbor told Omroep West that he didn't see or hear anything strange in the days preceding his neighbor's death. "She was a very nice woman who always said hello. The son was more withdrawn", he said.
