Arnhem man dead in his home for months; neighbors shocked

A man was found dead in his home in the Arnhem district of Persikhaaf on Wednesday. The police believe the man had been lying dead in his home for months. His neighbors are shocked. "We thought he was on vacation in Spain. Unbelievable", a local resident said to Omroep Gelderland.

According to the regional broadcaster, the man was of Spanish descent. A neighbor said that he was in his eighties and had few friends. "Only a little bit of contact with the neighbor next to him. A bit of a loner", the woman who lived in the apartment above him said to the broadcaster. "It was a shock for all of us as neighbors."

Another neighbor said they had no idea, there wasn't a smell or anything. "He won't be dead in the house, we said. And then we said: no, hey, otherwise we would have smelled it."

One of the neighbors became concerned because she hadn't seen the man for a long time. She contacted the landlord of the apartment, who contacted the police. Police officers found him on Tuesday.
