Rotterdam mother fatally stabbed; Suspect in custody
A 49-year-old woman died after a stabbing in a home on Homerusstraat in Rotterdam on Tuesday evening. The victim is a single woman who lived in the apartment with her daughter and three grandchildren, a local resident said to newspaper AD. Her grandchildren were in the apartment when she was attacked.
The stabbing happened in a home on the fourth floor. Shouting could be heard in the home after 8:00 p.m., witnesses said to the newspaper. According to a neighbor, the woman's ex came over. They got into a fight and things got out of hand. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene.
The victim's grandchildren were in the home during the stabbing. The neighbor saw them being cared for in a police van. The kids were later taken to a safe place.
The police are looking for the perpetrator. He is described as having tanned skin, dreadlocks and wearing a blue cap, possibly with a green bandana. According to a citizen alert published on Burgernet. Witnesses told AD that he is an older man.
It is not yet clear if the person who turned himself into police Wednesday morning is the same person of interest referenced in the Burgetnet alert. The alert is still live on the system's website, and as of 11:20 a.m. the alert did not state that the man described is in custody.
