Man in critical condition after being stabbed in chest; suspect arrested

A stabbing incident in the former hotel De Herberg in Hellevoetsluis left a man in critical condition on Saturday night. He was stabbed in the chest. A 36-year-old man from Hellevoetsluis was arrested as a suspect, the police said in a statement.

Police officers responded to the former hotel at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of a stabbing. At the scene, officers found a man with a stab wound in his chest. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Witness statements led the police to believe that the suspected perpetrator may still be hiding in the hotel. Officers searched the building and found a 36-year-old man hiding in one of the rooms. He was arrested and taken to a police station for questioning. He was still in custody on Sunday.

The current condition of the victim is not known.
