Burglary suspect leads police on long chase from Amersfoort to Amsterdam
A 46-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase across the A1, A27, A12, and A2 highways. The man was suspected of a burglary in Amersfoort, when he ignored officers' orders to stop.
It started at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, when police were called to the Hanzeboulevard to investigate a burglary of a business location. A witness at the scene gave police a description of the car, police said in a statement.
An officer on patrol in the area in a squad car then saw a vehicle matching the car's description. That's when the suspect allegedly took off with the officer in pursuit.
"We were stuck in traffic when the car drove by at top speed, crossing the closed section. No fewer than 11 police cars and two police motorcycles were behind it; they also drove across the closed section,'' an eyewitness named Willem told newspaper AD.

The chase crossed the four major highways before the suspect entered the municipality of Amsterdam. He crashed into a pole on President Kennedylaan.
Following the crash he was arrested and taken in for questioning.
As a direct route, the two cities lie about 45 kilometers away from each other. The route described by police would mean the chase lasted over 65 kilometers.
