Man shot and killed in Eindhoven neighborhood

A shooting on the Beukenlaan in Eindhoven claimed the life of at least one person on Friday morning. The victim was a 54-year-old man who died at an area hospital, according to a reporter for Omroep Brabant.

No suspects were immediately taken into custody, police in the area said.

Calls to emergency services reporting shots fired on the street in the Drets Dorp neighborhood were first made shortly before 9:30 a.m. "I was reading the newspaper in the living room when I suddenly heard two very loud bangs. Bam, bam!” a 74-year-old resident told the Eindhoven Dagblaad. "I immediately thought, 'Are those shots? On our street?' It sounded way too loud for fireworks."

Several ambulances were dispatched to the scene, as well as a police helicopter and dozens of detectives and forensic investigators. First responders treating him at the scene resuscitated the victim before transporting him to the hospital, according to police reports.

The man who was killed was apparently shot in his car, reported local news website Studio040.

Police shut down the surrounding area shortly after they arrived on scene, first to give extra space to paramedics, and then to keep the crime scene clear for the investigative unit.
