Reports to Dutch child porn hotline doubled last year
The number of reports filed with the Netherlands hotline for child pornography nearly doubled last year when compared to 2017. The hotline received 163,430 reports about images, videos and websites containing child pornography in 2018, the expertise agency on online child sexual abuse EOKM said in its annual report, ANP reports.
In total, hotline workers looked into over 224 thousand links to websites possibly showing children being sexually abused, an increase of 45 percent compared to 2017. Of these, 73 percent turned out to contain punishable material. And 69 percent of the sites containing child pornography, 112,331, were kept online via a Dutch computer.
The child porn hotline forms part of the EOKM. Through the hotline, people can anonymously report child pornography.
