The canteen of football clubs V.V. Deltasport and Cion on Kooikersweg in Vlaardingen was completely destroyed by a fire on Thursday morning. The building has since collapsed. At around 5:30 a.m. the fire department said that the building can no longer be saved, but emergency services did manage to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent gallery, RTV Rijnmond reports.

The building was also on fire earlier this week. "Sad news", Jop Heinen of local safety office Veligheidsregio Rotterdam-Rijnmond said to the broadcaster. "This is the same building where we were the day before yesterday. When we received the report early this morning at a quarter to five, the flames were already coming out of the building."

"We have to regard the building as lost", Heinen continued. "By urgently deploying a large extinguishing vehicle from the port, we were able to protect the building next door."

The cause of the fire is not yet known. "It is very coincidental that we are here again. But the first time was certainly not arson, we have been able to rule that out. Our investigator is now on site again. But the damage is so great that it becomes difficult to find out what happened."
