Fewer trains, busy rush hour due to snow
A large part of the Netherlands is covered in snow on Friday. It is expected to melt away quickly, but will likely still cause problems during the morning commute. Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow warning for icy roads, applicable to the entire country. And NS is running fewer trains.
NS adjusted the train timetable due to snow still falling in some parts of the country. Fewer trains are running in the east and southeast of the country, as well as on the route Amsterdam-Eindhoven, according to RTL Nieuws. The adjusted timetable will be in effect until at least 10:00 a.m. NS warns travelers that the snowfall can cause delays, and advises them to keep an eye on the NS trip planner.
Light snow is moving from south to north over the Netherlands on Friday morning, according to Buienradar. The weather service expects that 2 to 4 centimeters will fall in the middle and south of the country, and that the north of the country will get 1 to 2 centimeters of snow by late morning.
Because of the snow and wet areas freezing overnight, the roads may be icy and slick on Friday morning, the KNMI and ANWB warn. Public works department Rijkswaterstaat warns motorists to adjust their driving behavior - slow down, keep a safe following distance, and try not to brake suddenly or make unexpected steering movements.
