Fire in Soest apartment building leaves one dead
One person was killed in a fire at the Oranjepark apartment building in Soest on Thursday morning. The fire broke out at around 4:00 a.m. on the second floor of the building on Vredehofstraat, which consists of service homes for the elderly, RTV Utrecht reports.
Firefighters had the fire under control at around 6:00 a.m. The victim's body was found in the completely burnt-out home.
The upper floors of the building were evacuated due to smoke. The residents were offered shelter at a nearby restaurant.
The police are investigating the cause of the fire, but do not assume that a crime was involved, according to the broadcaster.
