Amsterdam Oost shooting suspect caught; One person at large
Police arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a Nov. 12 shooting in Amsterdam that wounded a 45-year-old man. A second person is still at large, but a description of that person was not released.
The arrest took place as Christmas Eve turned into Christmas Day, when the man in his twenties entered a hospitality industry business carrying narcotics, police said. Authorities alleged that firm's security guards found enough drugs on his person to be considered a "dealer's quantity." They reported the man to the police.
A statement from the police department released on Thursday noted that the man in custody was already wanted in connection with the Amsterdam Oost shooting.
Police had asked witnesses to the Krugerplein shooting to come forward, specifically a group of people hanging around the square just before the violent crime took place. Authorities say the witness canvassing paid off, and led investigators to the arrested suspect.
The 28-year-old was still being held for questioning on Thursday. Police said he will also have to serve 100 days in jail for another offense.
