Girl, 17, dies after Den Bosch hit-and-run; suspect arrested
A 17-year-old girl from Rosmalen died in hospital on Monday after being critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in Den Bosch early on Sunday morning. A 37-year-old man from Den Bosch was arrested, the police said in a statement.
The girl was cycling across De Harendonkweg at around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday when she was hit by a dark colored Volkswagen Golf. While witnesses tried to help the girl and called emergency services, the driver of the Golf sped away towards Sint Teunislaan. One of the Volkswagen's mirrors was left behind at the scene.
The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning.
At around 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, patrolling police officers noticed a dark colored Volkswagen with a damaged mirror on Slagendreef. They arrested the driver, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time. A small amount of cannabis was found in the car. "Investigation must show whether the man was also drunk at the time of the accident", the police said.
Blood samples were taken from the man and his driver's license was confiscated. He is still in custody.
