Autumn weather to cause rush hour traffic problems
Morning rush hour is expected to be a doozy on Tuesday. The wet autumn weather is expected to cause many traffic jams, according to both Rijkswaterstaat and ANWB, RTL Nieuws reports.
Rijkswaterstaat expects a traffic jam peak of over 300 kilometers on the Dutch highways this morning. By 7:00 a.m. there were already 90 kilometers of traffic jams on the highway, the Public Works department reported.
On the A20 from Hoek van Holland towards Gouda there is a 9 kilometers long traffic jam causing delays of over an hour. A lane is closed due to a broken truck at the Gouwe junction. And on the A12 between Arnhem and Utrecht, there is a 30 minutes long traffic jam due to an accident at the Oosterbeek exit.
The ANWB also monitors traffic on the provincial roads, not only highways like Rijkswaterstaat. By 7:00 a.m. the ANWB reported 261 kilometers of traffic jams on Dutch roads.
Evening rush hour is also expected to be a busy one. The weather will still be bad and part of evening rush hour happens in the dark. "We anticipate one of the busiest evenings of the year so far", Rijkswaterstaat said.
