Police shoot suspect in Emmen arrest

The police shot a man in the leg in a home on De Haar in Emmen on Wednesday afternoon. According to the police, the suspect was injured, but conscious. He was arrested and taken to a hospital in Groningen under police escort, Dagblad van het Noorden reports.

The police arrived at the apartment with two cars around 3:00 p.m. An hour later local residents heard two shots fired. The police could not tell the newspaper anything about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police shooting happened at a location of assisted living organization Cosis, an institution that helps people with mental or psychological disabilities in Drenthe and Groningen. The location consists of an office on the ground floor, and four apartments on the first and second floor.

The man who was shot lives on the top floor, local residents said to Dagblad van het Noorden. They describe him as very friendly, someone who always greets neighbors in passing.
