Man dies in Zoetermeer hospital after showing up with bullet wounds
A man who was taken to hospital in Zoetermeer with a gunshot wound on Monday morning, succumbed to his injuries, the Public Prosecutor confirmed. The police are investigating whether this man is a suspect the police shot at in Delft on Monday morning, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor said to NU.nl.
The police responded to Breestraat in Delft at around 5:00 a.m. on Monday after reports of a person with a firearm. When the police wanted to arrest the person, the suspect fled. Despite the police officers firing shots after the fleeing suspect, the suspect managed to get away.
This year there's been multiple violent incidents in Delft, including shots fired and explosives left at buildings. Coffeeshop The Game on Breestraat was one of the buildings targeted. Whether the suspect shot at on Monday morning was anywhere near this coffeeshop, is not clear.
The owner of The Game, in consultation with the mayor of Delft, decided to close his coffeeshop for a few days.
"I can imagine the the great concerns of the residents of Breestraat. They, just like me, are again shocked. These incidents do not belong in Delft", mayor Marja van Bijsterveldt said, according to the newspaper. The municipality will organize a private meeting for the local residents during the course of the week, so that their questions can be answered.
