Parking garage collapses in Wormerveer; rescue operation started
The second floor of a parking garage of supermarket Deka in Wormerveer collapsed on Tuesday. It is not yet clear if anyone was hurt or killed. Emergency services are at the scene, NRC reports.
At least five ambulances, the fire brigade and police are at the parking garage. Firefighters are not yet able to enter the collapsed structure, because it is still too dangerous, a spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Zaanstreek-Waterland said to the newspaper.
The spokesperson could not say whether any people or cars were on or below the second floor of the garage when it collapsed. Due to the destruction, it is very difficult to see what is going on, he said.
Firefighters are standing by to enter the building the moment it is possible.
The Deka building was evacuated, NH Nieuws reports.
The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
