Speedboat thieves arrested after chase on Amsterdam lake
Two men on a stolen speedboat were arrested on the Gooimeer in Amsterdam during the early hours of Monday morning after a chase involving a police boat and a police helicopter, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.
At around 3:30 a.m. on Monday the police received a report that a speedboat was stolen at IJburg and was sailing at high speeds towards Gooimeer. A police boat gave chase, and was soon joined by a police helicopter that happened to be in the area.
After a short search, the police helicopter managed to find the speedboat at Hollandse Brug and shone its spotlight on it. This enabled the police boat to locate and stop the stolen boat. A registration check confirmed that this was indeed the boat stolen from IJburg.
Two suspects, men aged 31 and 33 years from Amsterdam, were arrested on the boat.
