Father and son arrested for Brabant murder
The police arrested a second suspect in the murder of Daan Hoefs in Schijndel in April. The 63-year-old man from Schijndel was arrested in Grave on Monday. He is the father of a 29-year-old man arrested two days after the fatal shooting, Omroep Brabant reports.
Hoefs was gunned down on Aagje Dekenstraat in the Noord-Brabant town on April 25th. He had an extensive criminal record, including assault, drug crimes and weapon possession. He was also a suspect in a fatal stabbing in 2015.
The 29-year-old suspect arrested shortly after the murder, is still in custody. He is suspected of firing the fatal shots.
During the course of the investigation, the 29-year-old's father came into the picture as a suspect, the police said on Tuesday. Investigators believe he played a role in the run-up to the shooting. Exactly what role he played, was not revealed.
A spokesperson for the police told Omroep Brabant that the father's role goes "beyond involvement in the preparation" for the murder. "Think for example of complicity and instigation", the spokesperson said. The older suspect's home was searched on Monday. He is still in custody.
