Body of missing swimmer found in Noord-Holland lake
The police found the body of a 31-year-old man from Alkmaar in a lake in the Noord-Holland town of Zuid-Scharwoude during the early hours of Monday morning. The man disappeared underwater in the recreational are Geestmerambacht on Sunday morning, NU.nl reports.
Emergency services responded to the lake on Sunday morning after reports of a man in "distress". According to the police, it was initially uncertain whether someone was in trouble in the water. But in the course of the afternoon, the man's belongings were found in the area.
A large search was launched for the man, including divers from the fire brigade and the national underwater search team. Sonar equipment was also used. The man's body was found on Monday morning.
