On Tuesday the police recovered seven valuable paintings that were stolen from a resident of Voerendaal. The paintings include works by Mondriaan, Mesdag, Tischbein and V. Kulagina, among others, and are worth hundreds of thousands of euros, the police said in a statement on Thursday. Three suspects were arrested.

As part of the investigation into the stolen paintings, the police searched buildings in Best, Enschede, Berg en Terblijt and Zwolle on Tuesday morning. The paintings were found in Enschede. They were confiscated for further investigation. The police also found firearms, narcotics and a large amount of cash during the searches.

In addition to the paintings stolen from Voerendaal, the police also found a number of other paintings whose origin is still under investigation.

The three arrested suspects come from Berg en Terblijt, Best and Enschede. They are in restricted custody, which means that they are only allowed contact with their lawyer.
