Fire in Heemskerk dunes; dozens of fire trucks respond
A fire broke out in the dunes near Heemskerk, Noord-Holland, late on Monday morning. Emergency services are at the scene in large numbers, including dozens of fire trucks. The emergency services deployed en masse, erring on the side of caution due to the drought, a spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Kennemerland said to ANP.
According to the safety office, an area of around 400 by 450 meters was on fire by 1:00 p.m. The fire brigade closed the surrounding roads, so that the area is more easily accessible for the emergency services. People already in the dunes were instructed to leave the area, to give firefighters room to work.
A helicopter is circling above the dunes, mapping the area of the fire. A long row of fire trucks was seen entering the Noordhollands Duinreservaat, according to Noordhollands Dagblad.
